Job description

Position Overview

The Product Engineer will own solar panel design from concept through mass production, ensuring products are leading edge, high-performance, cost-effective, and scalable for manufacturing. This is a startup role requiring technical depth, speed, and strong collaboration with manufacturing and supply chain teams. Not only is this role defining the product we start up with, but building the trajectory for our future technology.

Solar panel design experience required.

Key Responsibilities:

Product Design & Innovation

  • Own end-to-end PV module design from concept through mass production
  • Design PV modules optimized for performance, durability, and manufacturability
  • Manage products through the complete product development lifecycle
  • Drive product development process, and leading Gate Meetings at each development phase and provide constructive feedback.
  • Lead prototype builds, testing, and rapid iteration cycles
  • Own product specifications, BOMs, and documentation
  • Work with Supply chain to define and source the required components

Manufacturing Integration

  • Partner with process engineers to ensure smooth production ramp-ups
  • Optimize designs for yield, cost, and automation compatibility
  • Manage engineering change processes


Quality & Performance

  • Analyze test data and production metrics to improve reliability
  • Support certifications, safety compliance, and performance validation
  • Lead cross-functional development, certification, and production ramp-up
  • Define and drive the next-generation solar module technology roadmap
  • Ensure governance and control across the full lifecycle of PV module design, from concept validation through mass production readiness.
  • Establish and implement framework to support the successful launch and scalable production of first-generation US Modules product platforms.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize module performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost per watt while ensuring compliance with applicable standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead cross-functional team through planning, IEC 61215, IEC/UL 61730 certification readiness, risk management, and production ramp-up to ensure product conformity and stable manufacturing performance.

Technology roadmap

  • Define and execute the strategy supporting next generation solar module technology, including validation protocols, reliability testing, and continuous improvement roadmaps.
  • Define the roadmap for the next generation solar module to be built in our factories.
  • Collaborate with the engineering, quality and customers to define the technology roadmap.
  • Launch and scale the first-generation US Modules product platform
  • Optimize performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost per watt
  • Support customer in all technical product elements ensuring optimal system performance
  • Work with the Quality team on any field related issues, ensuring full root cause analysis and comprehensive improvements driven back into product design and manufacturing PFEMA

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Renewable Energy Engineering
  • 8+ years of solar panel/module design experience (required)
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Solar Module qualification process, and core technology roadmaps.
  • Strong technical analysis skills
  • Experience working in fast-paced product development environments
