What is a module development engineer?

Module Development Engineers are professionals who design, develop, and optimize specific modules or components within larger engineering systems, often in industries like semiconductor manufacturing, automotive, or software development. Their work involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, conducting experiments, and integrating new technologies to improve module performance and reliability. They are responsible for troubleshooting issues, implementing design changes, and ensuring that modules meet technical specifications and quality standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a module development engineer?

To thrive as a Module Development Engineer, you need a strong background in electrical or mechanical engineering, along with experience in module design, testing, and manufacturing processes. Familiarity with CAD software (such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks), simulation tools, and industry-specific standards or certifications (like ISO or Six Sigma) is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective teamwork skills help you excel in cross-functional environments. These competencies ensure high-quality module development, efficient collaboration, and adherence to industry standards for successful project delivery.

What are some common challenges a module development engineer faces when integrating new modules into existing systems?

Module Development Engineers often encounter challenges related to compatibility and seamless integration of new modules with legacy systems. Ensuring that new modules meet performance standards without disrupting current workflows requires careful planning and thorough testing. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, such as software developers and quality assurance, is essential to identify potential integration issues early. Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to troubleshooting help Module Development Engineers overcome these challenges effectively.

Job description

Plastik AI is harnessing the power of artificial intelligence to revolutionize the plastic and plastic compounding industries, bridging the gap between engineers using plastics and manufacturers creating them. At the core of our platform is Herman, an advanced AI agent designed to match product requirements with ideal plastic compounds. Herman leverages a combination of public and proprietary data to enable rapid and precise material recommendation, which can be easily ordered within a marketplace.

We are looking for a skilled Full-stack Software Engineer to play a key role in building the front-end and back-end infrastructure for tools and interfaces that make Herman accessible to engineers and manufacturing companies. In this role, you will mainly drive and implement the design, development, test, and delivery of UI features that expose the portfolio’s rich capabilities for users while providing exceptional easy-to-use experiences.

Our ideal candidate has more experience with front-end development but is capable of interfacing with the entire stack for rapid feature deployment. We see a combination of these skills as crucial for helping us meld our novel user experiences with AI Agents to enable easy plastic selection, sourcing, and logistics. This transformative approach unlocks new possibilities in plastics innovation, enabling faster, smarter, and more efficient product development and material discovery.

As part of our cross-disciplinary team, you will work alongside MIT-trained engineers, scientists, and business professionals to build a groundbreaking AI platform for the plastics industry. Join us in transforming how the world approaches plastic materials through cutting-edge technology and innovation.

Our stack: Javascript, React, React.js, Postgres, AWS, Kubernetes, Python, PyTorch

Job Responsibilities

Implement UIs with clean, responsive, and accessible Javascript, Typescript, HTML, and CSS as needed to support the back-end team. Work with other engineers and designers to bring UI designs from concept to implementation through rapid prototyping and evaluation of design ideas.
  • Data & Analytics – Develop custom dashboards, automate reports, and provide insights for data-driven decision-making. Write automated tests for the continuous delivery pipeline and meet development quality objectives.
  • Software development and integration - Integrating our application with various third-party applications, systems, and APIs to ensure seamless data flow and process automation.
  • Project management and leadership - Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including business analysts, project managers, and quality assurance, to gather requirements, provide technical insights, and ensure successful project delivery.
  • Troubleshooting and support - Identifying, diagnosing, and resolving technical issues and bugs within our applications to ensure a smooth user experience. Creating and maintaining technical documentation for our custom modules, and integrations for future reference and knowledge sharing.
