Overview

LMI is seeking a skilled UX Designer at our headquarters office in Tysons, VA. As a UX Designer at LMI, your work will focus on crafting intuitive and accessible user experiences for federal systems. You will play an essential role in implementing human-centered design practices within Agile frameworks, conducting user research, and driving iterative improvements to support mission-critical applications. Working closely with stakeholders, product teams, and developers, you will create user-centric designs, ensure alignment with compliance standards, and deliver exceptional experiences with measurable results. Applicants will need to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance.

Responsibilities

 Key Responsibilities: 

  • Apply human-centered design (HCD) principles to create user-first design solutions.
  • Conduct user research activities such as surveys, interviews, workshops, and focus groups to uncover user needs, pain points, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and leverage user personas, journey maps, and task analyses to inform design decisions.
  • Design and prototype solutions with a focus on user interactions that align with the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) guidelines.
  • Ensure all designs meet Section 508 accessibility compliance, focused on inclusive and equitable access for all users.
  • Conduct usability testing, analyze feedback, and integrate improvements throughout design iterations.
  • Develop high-fidelity wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes to effectively communicate ideas.
  • Create and update visual design assets, style guides, component libraries, and overall design system documentation.
  • Collaborate with Agile teams to plan and execute design sprints and ensure a seamless integration of design and development.
  • Facilitate stakeholder collaboration through workshops, feedback sessions, and regular communication.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., User Experience, Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or equivalent).
  • 3-7 years of hands-on experience in UX/UI design, interaction design, or user research roles.
  • Proficiency in user research, prototyping, and designing user-friendly interfaces.
  • Demonstrated skills in accessibility compliance and experience implementing Section 508 standards into guidelines and workflows for digital solutions.
  • Expertise in using and designing with U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) standards to create consistent and compliant interfaces for web and mobile platforms.
  • Experience working within Agile development environments, including Agile sprints and iterative design cycles.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including developers and product managers.
  • Proficiency in design and prototyping tools (e.g., Sketch, Figma, Adobe XD, Axure).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge of HCD methodologies, including creating journey maps, conducting task analysis, and designing engaging user interfaces.
  • Experience developing training materials such as guides, video tutorials, and interactive modules for user adoption.
  • Familiarity with change management strategies, communication planning, and facilitating stakeholder alignment during project transitions.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze user analytics and feedback to generate actionable insights and improve overall user satisfaction.
  • Experience designing for complex federal systems or other regulated industries with a focus on compliance and security.
  • Certification in UX, HCD, or Agile methodologies (e.g., Professional Scrum Master [PSM] or Interaction Design Certification).
  • Knowledge or experience in leveraging emerging technologies like AI/machine learning to improve user experience.
  • Experience supporting the General Services Administration (GSA). 

Target salary range: $78,000 - $130,000
