Description
At STARC Systems in Brunswick, Maine, the Machinist (1st or 2nd shift) plays a key role in building high quality components that support the production of our award-winning modular wall systems. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands on craftsmanship, problem solving, and contributing to products that make a real impact in healthcare, construction, and beyond. Working with both CNC and manual machining equipment, the Machinist helps bring new ideas to life through precision work, teamwork, and pride in craftsmanship.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and job orders to understand machining requirements.
  • Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, and manual machines to produce high quality parts that support STARC's production needs.
  • Select proper tooling, fixtures, speeds, and feeds to achieve consistent, accurate results.
  • Perform detailed measurements using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other inspection tools.
  • Complete first piece, in-process, and final inspections to maintain exceptional product quality.
  • Monitor machine performance and adjust settings to maintain precision and efficiency.
  • Perform secondary machining and finishing operations as required to support downstream assembly.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and communicate equipment or quality issues to prevent downtime.
  • Maintain accurate production documentation and follow established machining parameters.
  • Support the overall cleanliness and organization of the shop by following 5S standards.
  • Follow all STARC Systems safety procedures and contribute to a positive, safe work culture.
  • Assist with material handling tasks such as loading, unloading, and staging materials.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering, production, and quality teams to improve processes and solve challenges.

  • At least two years of machining experience, including CNC setup and operation.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and problem solving skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: The physical demands described here reflect the requirements needed to perform the essential functions of this role. The employee frequently uses hands and arms for handling tools, materials, and machine controls. Bending, reaching, and repetitive motion are required throughout the day. Forklift operation is required. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high. Hearing protection and other PPE are provided and required. Salary Description $26.00 - $28.00/hour
