Volumod (Vol-U-mod) is a multi-family modular construction company located on the Far East Side of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Volumod's team of more than 100 skilled professionals builds apartment buildings and other multi-family housing in sections - called modules - within a heated-and-cooled facility. On the factory floor, each home moves through 20 different stations , including framing, electrical, plumbing, flooring, drywall, siding, roofing, and interior finish, with kitchens and bathrooms installed, to produce a home that is 90% complete!
The modules are then wrapped , transported by semi truck, and lifted with a crane to form multifamily communities. Modular construction improves speed, consistency, quality, and efficiency compared with traditional, onsite construction, bringing value to our clients.

Position Summary
The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, leading, and executing a comprehensive safety strategy across all modular housing manufacturing facilities and field installation operations. This role ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations while fostering a culture of safety excellence. The Safety Manager will partner with leadership to reduce risk, prevent workplace injuries, and promote continuous improvement in safety performance.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Strategy & Leadership
  • Develop and implement a company-wide safety vision, strategy, and roadmap aligned with operational goals
  • Lead initiatives that promote a proactive, behavior-based safety culture across manufacturing plants and field operations
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on all safety-related matters

Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and all applicable regulatory requirements
  • Maintain and update safety policies, procedures, and programs
  • Lead and manage OSHA inspections, audits, and reporting requirements
  • Monitor changes in regulations and proactively adjust company policies

Risk Management & Incident Prevention
  • Oversee hazard identification, risk assessments, and mitigation strategies
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action plans
  • Track, analyze, and report safety metrics (TRIR, DART, near misses, etc.)
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce workplace incidents

Training & Development
  • Design and implement safety training programs for plant employees, field crews, and leadership
  • Ensure all employees receive required safety certifications and ongoing training
  • Develop leadership capability in safety accountability at all levels

Field & Manufacturing Safety Oversight
  • Ensure safety standards are consistently applied across modular production facilities and installation sites
  • Conduct regular site visits, audits, and inspections
  • Collaborate with production and construction teams to integrate safety into daily operations

Emergency Preparedness
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans
  • Lead crisis management efforts related to workplace incidents
  • Coordinate drills and ensure readiness across all locations

Collaboration & Culture
  • Partner with HR, Operations, and Plant Leadership to align safety with business objectives
  • Lead safety committees and employee engagement initiatives
  • Promote a "safety-first" mindset and accountability culture

Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 8-10+ years of progressive safety leadership experience in manufacturing, construction, or modular housing
  • Experience managing multi-site safety programs preferred

Certifications (Preferred)
  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional)
  • ASP (Associate Safety Professional)
  • OSHA 30 (or equivalent advanced certification)

Salary Description
