Job description

Job Summary
Seeking an enthusiastic and committed individual to work hands on with individuals with disabilities in an enrichment based recreational setting. Programming takes place at various locations throughout the city of Milwaukee.
Position Summary
  • Respect all participants.
  • Be punctual for work.
  • Learn participant's names and abilities. Be aware of their needs (medication, allergies, etc)
  • Assist and encourage participants in each activity. Do not do the activity for them.
  • Attend all requested meetings and trainings.
  • Use appropriate discipline when needed. No physical punishment.
  • Always sit with the group during instruction and be involved. Do not separate yourself from the activity and group.
  • Assist participants with toileting and feeding.
  • Be enthusiastic about your job.
  • Serve as a role model for participants.
  • Keep your group together. Be aware of those who many wander away.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervision Required
Reports to the Recreation Supervisor of Therapeutic Recreation.
Job Requirements
  • Be punctual for work and meet scheduled needs of position including dress code.
  • Ability to foster positive relationships through patience and respect.
  • Effectively communicate with all members of the community, coworkers, and supervisory staff.
  • Excellent decision making/ problem solving skills and ability to carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to participate interactively and effectively with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Understand and abide by all policies and procedures outlined in the Part-Time Employee Manual
  • Enforce and adhere to all Milwaukee Public Schools and Milwaukee Recreation policies and rules.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, inviting, family friendly environment.
  • Attend/complete all requested meetings and trainings.
  • Be intentional in your actions and demonstrate professionalism at all times while on the job while being enthusiastic about your job.
  • Accurately complete administrative duties in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.
