This opportunity resides with Uncrewed Systems (UxS), a business group within HII's Mission Technologies division. Uncrewed Systems comprises unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs), unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) and autonomy software.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Modeling and Simulation Group as a Simulation Engineer to support our rapidly expanding portfolio of autonomous vessels. As HII Unmanned Systems continues to push the boundaries of multi-domain autonomy, one of our primary focuses is the architecture of our underwater and surface vehicles. The Simulation Engineer will apply knowledge about hydrodynamics, virtual models, and HII's unmanned vehicles to develop and execute a digital twin modeling and simulation environment. This will involve integration of vehicle hardware with the simulator and software development to enable a robust virtual testbed for advance autonomy solutions.
What you will be doing!!
Develops new and/or integrates existing system simulation frameworks, performance models and algorithms, threat models and command and control models. Develops software that simulates behavior of users and systems. Models operational environments, performs trade studies via computer simulation and provides decision support for alternative architectures. Performs operational analysis and mission effectiveness analysis. Develop, code, and test virtual models for vehicles, sensors, actuators, and auxilary equipment in a hydrodynamic simulation environment. Create/enhance virtual worlds for fully integrated mission simulation. Support development and integration of modeling and simulation standards into company processes. Set-up, perform, and analyze hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) simulations to support various projects and applications in the business. Assist in the solution of difficult problems involved in areas of assignment. At times, support the development of advanced software including autonomy behaviors, path planning, and flight control. The duties described herein cover major duties as required. However, this does not exclude the requirement of performing related duties under normal conditions, and other duties directed by supervision.
What we are looking for...
  • 0 years experience with Bachelors in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 4 years relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated C++/Python/MATLAB development experience
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and exercise new tools
  • Linux system use and programming
  • Ocean/Marine engineering knowledge: hydrostatics, hydrodynamics, ocean profiles, marine vessels, etc.
  • Ability to integrate hardware and software in the loop with simulation environment (establish communication protocols, data verification, robustness measures, etc.)
  • Ability to work and succeed within a system engineering applied project.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts to system modeling and simulation
  • Familiarity/interest in robotic systems and ROS2.
  • Demonstrated technical writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment.
  • Applicants selected for this position will be required to obtain and maintain a government security clearance. #LI-MH1
