How much do modeling simulation engineer jobs pay per year?
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Modeling Simulation Engineer position, and why are they important?
To thrive as a Modeling Simulation Engineer, you need a strong background in mathematics, physics, and computer science, typically supported by a relevant engineering or science degree. Proficiency with simulation software such as MATLAB, Simulink, ANSYS, or similar tools, and sometimes certifications in systems engineering or modeling methodologies, are commonly required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills set top candidates apart. These qualifications are crucial for accurately representing complex systems, translating requirements into effective models, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to achieve project goals.
What does a Modeling Simulation Engineer do?
A Modeling Simulation Engineer develops virtual models and simulations to analyze complex systems and processes. They use mathematical models, computer simulations, and data analysis to predict system performance and optimize designs before physical implementation. These engineers typically work in industries like aerospace, defense, automotive, and healthcare to improve efficiency, safety, and decision-making. Their role often involves coding, algorithm development, and working with simulation software to test real-world scenarios in a virtual environment.
What are the typical responsibilities and project stages for a Modeling Simulation Engineer?
Modeling Simulation Engineers are responsible for developing mathematical models, running simulations, analyzing results, and providing recommendations to improve system performance or design. Projects often begin with understanding client or stakeholder requirements, followed by designing models based on those needs and iteratively refining them as data is collected. Engineers work closely with design, hardware, and software teams to validate models and ensure alignment with real-world performance. Collaborating with colleagues and presenting findings to both technical and non-technical audiences are routine aspects of the job, making cross-functional communication vital for project success.

We provide the resources, inspiration and focus-if you have the passion and courage to dream big, then we want to build a better tomorrow with you.
For over 60 years, the Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) team has supported the Navy's mission to provide affordable and credible strategic deterrence. We offer unique career opportunities and challenges on a program with a rich history and exciting future. We help keep this nation and our allies secure. The FBM Program is experiencing significant growth, and we need your expertise to deliver amazing new technologies to our customers while maintaining the technical requirements of the strategic deterrence.
In acknowledgement of the significant growth and expansion that the FBM Program is experiencing - a new FBM Program Integration Directorate has been created. This new directorate is responsible for integrating and aligning all efforts, priorities, resources, and engagements across all FBM subordinate programs. The Operational Resilience and Integration team's vision is to coordinate synchronized operational lifecycles and drive sustained program resilience. We de-risk the program by establishing operational consistency, anticipating emerging challenges, and mitigating threats ensuring the FBM Program remains resilient and ahead of ready.
As a member of the award-winning FBM Age Management team in the FBM Program Integration directorate, you'll work on the team responsible for leading the FBM Age Management program dedicated to assessing the Trident II (D5) Flight System throughout its Lifecycle, based on calendar life degradation and functional operation from initial manufacture to removal from service. We are responsible for the engineering evaluations of age risks on the flight system assemblies, modeling technical & program risks, statistical assessments, and creating digital threads that integrate into a digital twin of the Flight System.
Key responsibilities and elements of this role will include:
• Coding and managing models & simulations that serve as Digital Twin representations of flight system hardware at various levels (System, Component, Subcomponent, Material, etc.)
• Perform Modeling & Simulation of various aging & lifecycle analyses, and synthesizing that data to drive program decision-making processes
• Improvements and maintenance of various existing models & simulations
• Technical integration across multiple cross-functional teams (engineering, production, operations, etc.)
• Completing scope that is critical to meet major project & program planning factors, milestones, and contractual deliverables
• Documentation of analyses' results and tools/models assumptions
• Presentations, statuses, and interfaces to both internal LM stakeholders, as well as Navy SSP Leadership
