How much do modeling simulation engineer jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 12, 2026, the average yearly pay for modeling simulation engineer in Arizona is $114,994.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $85,700.00 and $136,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Modeling Simulation Engineer position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Modeling Simulation Engineer, you need a strong background in mathematics, physics, and computer science, typically supported by a relevant engineering or science degree. Proficiency with simulation software such as MATLAB, Simulink, ANSYS, or similar tools, and sometimes certifications in systems engineering or modeling methodologies, are commonly required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills set top candidates apart. These qualifications are crucial for accurately representing complex systems, translating requirements into effective models, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to achieve project goals.

What does a Modeling Simulation Engineer do?

A Modeling Simulation Engineer develops virtual models and simulations to analyze complex systems and processes. They use mathematical models, computer simulations, and data analysis to predict system performance and optimize designs before physical implementation. These engineers typically work in industries like aerospace, defense, automotive, and healthcare to improve efficiency, safety, and decision-making. Their role often involves coding, algorithm development, and working with simulation software to test real-world scenarios in a virtual environment.

What are the typical responsibilities and project stages for a Modeling Simulation Engineer?

Modeling Simulation Engineers are responsible for developing mathematical models, running simulations, analyzing results, and providing recommendations to improve system performance or design. Projects often begin with understanding client or stakeholder requirements, followed by designing models based on those needs and iteratively refining them as data is collected. Engineers work closely with design, hardware, and software teams to validate models and ensure alignment with real-world performance. Collaborating with colleagues and presenting findings to both technical and non-technical audiences are routine aspects of the job, making cross-functional communication vital for project success.

Job description

Modeling and Simulation Engineer
Req Id: 1855
State/Province: Arizona
Business: Gore Medical Products
Category: Engineering, Scientists & Technicians
Sub-Category: Engineering
Work Arrangement: Hybrid
Posting Start Date: 6/26/26
Posting End Date: 7/11/26
About the Role
We are looking for a Finite Element Analyst to join our Modeling & Simulation team. In this role, you will develop and execute finite element simulations to support the design, development, and validation of cardiovascular medical devices. You will work closely with cross-functional product teams to predict device performance, identify worst-case conditions, and accelerate product development through virtual testing. This role provides the opportunity to contribute across the full product lifecycle-from concept through commercialization-while leveraging advanced modeling techniques and collaborating with subject matter experts in materials, design, and testing.
This position will be located at one of our facilities in Flagstaff, or Phoenix Arizona, with the possibility of a hybrid work arrangement.
Responsibilities
  • Develop high-fidelity FEA models for structural, fatigue, and deployment simulations of medical devices
  • Execute simulations (static and dynamic) to evaluate device performance under physiologic loading conditions
  • Perform design of experiments (DOE) and parametric studies to inform design decisions
  • Analyze and interpret simulation results (stress, strain, deformation, fatigue life) to guide development teams
  • Collaborate with design, materials, and test teams to define appropriate boundary conditions and validation strategies
  • Validate computational models against bench and/or in vivo data
  • Identify worst-case scenarios to support durability testing and regulatory submissions
  • Document and communicate results through technical reports and presentations
  • Review and provide feedback on modeling approaches and analyses performed by peers
  • Support continuous improvement of modeling workflows, tools, and best practices

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field with a minimum of 3 years experience in finite element analysis
  • Experience supporting product development using FEA
  • Experience with medical devices, biomedical systems or other highly regulated environments
  • Demonstrated experience using Abaqus (standard and explicit solvers) and experience with pre/post-processing tools and meshing techniques
  • Proficient using CAD (SolidWorks and RhinoCAD)
  • Experience with programming or scripting (Python, MATLAB, or similar) for automation and data processing
  • Ability to analyze and interpret solid mechanics, material behavior, and fatigue analysis and experience with nonlinear analysis (contact, large deformation, material nonlinearity)
  • Ability to independently manage multiple simulation projects, solve complex modeling challenges, and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent communication and technical documentation skills
  • Ability to travel up to 5%

Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in relevant field
  • Experience with Nitinol or polymer-based device modeling and fatigue evaluation
  • Experience applying machine learning techniques (e.g., regression, surrogate modeling, optimization) to accelerate design exploration or simulation workflows
