Job Summary

This position is responsible for the design, development, verification of assigned mechanical components to include sheet-metal / machined-metal parts and assemblies, and theoretical mechanical concepts required to integrate mechanical and electrical components into one assembly.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain a basic working knowledge of Crystal Group's mechanical design tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Inventor) for efficient conversion of technical requirements into schematic diagrams and assembly drawings
  • Maintain a basic understanding of metal parts machining, fabrication, and assembly processes
  • Maintain a basic working knowledge of packaging techniques applied to high performance electronics for use in harsh and demanding environments
  • Maintain a basic working knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the design field
  • Recommend the proper procedures, processes, templates, and tools to correctly perform the task assigned
  • Provide technical assistance for the building and testing of new products and systems
  • Provide basic troubleshooting support for products in Manufacturing and Technical Services
  • Review mechanical drawings and designs to ensure adherence to established specifications and standards, as assigned
  • Ensure designs are producible and error free
  • Provides basic component-level review and in-depth troubleshooting support for product in Manufacturing and in the field as well as Sales department assistance
  • Assist the systems team in researching, designing, and evaluating systems and/or processes to meet customer requirements
  • Write mechanical performance requirements for product development or engineering projects
  • Perform detailed mechanical or fluid calculations to compute and establish manufacturing standards or specifications
  • Utilize engineering theory and simulation models to assess feasibility, sustainability, and operating condition effects
  • Compile data and write reports regarding existing or potential mechanical engineering studies or projects

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of 3D modeling techniques
  • Familiar with Finite Element Analysis and computational fluid dynamics
  • Familiar with Computer Numerical Control design requirements
  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware and systems integration
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical component industry standards
  • Basic understanding of commonly practiced concepts related to Mechanical Engineering theory
  • Works well both independently and in a team environment and is willing to change priorities as needed
  • Multitasking skills including the ability to work across multiple software platforms
  • Use hand tools (caliper, micrometer, feeler gauge, fluid pressure meter, infrared thermal cameras, etc.)
  • Inspect and troubleshoot computer related hardware components at an assembly level
  • Ability to use various software programs related to engineering theory (AutoDesk inventor, AutoCAD, Ansys simulation software)
  • Create, read, and compare technical data sheets

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a US Person (US Citizen, person granted US Permanent Resident Card or any individual who is granted status as a "protected person")
  • Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering or related field required or at least 10+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience in lieu of a degree

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of mechanical component design or manufacturing experience
  • 3+ years of CAD software related work
  • Extensive knowledge of computer equipment (PC, firewall, switch, data acquisition systems, UPS, server rack equipment, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of harsh mechanical environments

Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Occasional exposure to manufacturing floor and testing environments. May require lifting up to 25 lbs, standing for extended periods during product testing.
