The Director of Safety and Quality Assurance leads the development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of the Safety Management System (SMS), Quality Assurance (QA) programs, and Emergency Response Plan (ERP) activities for the Corporate Aviation business unit. This position maintains a role on the Company's regional Crisis Response Team (CRT). The Director will promote a proactive safety and compliance culture aligned with Aviation's mission to deliver superior global transportation solutions and ensures adherence to global regulatory requirements through continuous monitoring and updates to policies, standards, and procedures set forth by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO), and worldwide civil aviation authorities.

The below represents the expected salary range for this job requisition. Ultimately, in determining your pay, we'll consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive aviation experience, including 5 years in a safety, quality management, or leadership role
  • In-depth knowledge of FAA Part 91 operations, IS-BAO principles, international operational requirements, and regulatory landscape
  • Strong analytical and data-driven problem-solving skills, including proficiency with database and reporting systems
  • Strong understanding of global flight operations and regulatory frameworks
  • Written and verbal communication skills conducive to the stated responsibilities 
  • Ability to deliver strategic, collaborative, and operational leadership
  • Demonstrative understanding of operational risk management and analytical reasoning
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and professional excellence

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing or supporting corporate flight operations, with emphasis and preference on global, ultra-long-range operations and rotary-wing aircraft 

  • Pilot (ATP or Commercial) or Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic certification is highly desirable
  • Certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Aviation Safety Officer (ASO), or IS-BAO Auditor, or willingness to obtain, are preferred, including training in:
    • Flight safety philosophy
    • Safety Management Systems
    • Human factors and the decision-making process
    • Accident / incident prevention, investigation, and management
    • Risk management
    • Emergency response planning

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

Safety Management

  • Lead hazard identification, risk assessment, tracking, and resolution across flight operations, maintenance, and ground handling functions
  • Develop and conduct safety, SMS participation, and human factors training and engagement activities for pilots, maintenance technicians, support staff, and corporate stakeholders
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all safety-related matters, including incident investigations, safety reporting, and external working groups
  • Oversee trend analysis and safety performance metrics, ensuring lessons learned are communicated and incorporated into procedures and training
  • Coordinate emergency response planning (ERP) and conduct regular drills and readiness reviews in coordination with the New York CRT

Quality Assurance

  • Design and administer a comprehensive Quality Assurance and Internal Evaluation Program (IEP) encompassing flight operations, maintenance, dispatch, and vendor services
  • Monitor compliance with global aviation regulations, company policies, and manufacturer maintenance programs
  • Establish and direct the Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA) monitoring program
  • Perform internal self-tests and oversee vendor, supplier, and FBO audits to ensure adherence to company standards, safety protocols, and contractual obligations
  • Ensure documentation integrity across operational, maintenance, and safety records, including conformity with IS-BAO Stage 3 standards
  • Track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and develop corrective action plans to address findings or deficiencies

Leadership

  • Oversee Safety and Quality feedback loops across the department
  • Appeal directly to the Accountable Executive on all matters related to immediate, critical, and time sensitive safety matters
  • Leads the Safety Review Team activities, as described in the Flight Operations Manual
