What is model home staging?

Model home staging is the process of furnishing and decorating a newly built or empty home to make it look attractive to potential buyers. Professional stagers use furniture, artwork, and accessories to highlight the home's best features and help buyers visualize themselves living there. This can make the property feel more welcoming and can often lead to faster sales and higher offers. Staging is commonly used by home builders and real estate agents to maximize a home's appeal.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a model home stager?

To thrive as a Model Home Stager, you need a strong eye for interior design, spatial planning, and a good understanding of current market trends, often supported by a degree or coursework in design or related fields. Familiarity with design software (such as SketchUp or AutoCAD), furniture sourcing platforms, and sometimes a home staging certification is highly beneficial. Excellent communication, creativity, and project management skills help you effectively collaborate with realtors, homeowners, and vendors while meeting deadlines. These abilities ensure that properties are presented in their best light, attracting buyers and maximizing the home's market value.

What are some common challenges faced when staging model homes, and how can they be effectively addressed?

One of the most common challenges in model home staging is appealing to a broad range of potential buyers while creating an inviting, memorable space. This requires balancing current design trends with timeless elements and ensuring the home feels warm but not overly personalized. Budget constraints and tight timelines can also add pressure, as stagers must source furniture and decor efficiently. Collaborating closely with real estate agents and builders is essential to align staging with marketing strategies and target demographics. Staying organized and adaptable helps overcome these challenges and ensures each model home stands out in a competitive market.

What is the difference between Model Home Staging vs Home Stager?

Search & Comparison IntentUnderstanding staging for model homes vs personal homesDistinguishing between staging for model homes and personal residences

Model Home Staging focuses on preparing new or model homes for sale, often working with developers and builders. Home Stagers work on a broader range of residential properties, including existing homes for individual clients. While both roles require similar skills and certifications, their work environments and target audiences differ significantly.

How to get hired as a model home stager?

To get hired as a model home stager, develop a strong portfolio showcasing your staging work, gain experience through internships or freelance projects, and build relationships with real estate agents and home builders. Knowledge of interior design, decorating skills, and familiarity with furniture and decor are essential, and certifications in staging can enhance credibility.

Is there a demand for model home staging?

There is consistent demand for model home staging as real estate markets seek to showcase properties effectively to attract buyers. Stagers with strong design skills and knowledge of current trends are often in higher demand, especially in competitive housing markets and new developments.

Job description

About Jetson

Jetson is on a mission to accelerate the transition of 100 million homes across North America away from fossil fuels toward sustainable energy use. We believe in a future that is 100% electric and 100% better.

Homes are one of the largest sources of carbon emissions, yet adoption of solutions like heat pumps remains slow due to cost and complexity. Jetson is solving this by building the first fully vertically integrated home electrification company — making clean energy simple, transparent, and affordable.

We rely heavily on technology, automation, and data to scale this impact. At Jetson, we value people who are excellent at their craft, curious about new tools (including AI), and motivated to continuously improve how work gets done.

The Opportunity

We're looking for an Industrial Engineer to own the physical design, flow optimization, and continuous improvement of Jetson's warehouse network. This is a hands‑on, high‑ownership role — you'll be the person who designs the layout of a new market warehouse, sets the standard for how materials move, and builds the 5S culture that makes our operations replicable at scale.

You will be embedded in our operations team, working directly with warehouse managers, field operations leadership, and the supply chain team to design facilities that perform from day one and improve over time. If you’ve wanted to see your IE work translate directly into real operational results — and you want to own, end‑to‑end — this is that role.

What You Will Do
  • Design and document scaled floor plan layouts for new and existing Jetson market warehouses, including zone delineation, aisle widths, clear height specifications, and racking/shelving adjacency planning
  • Engineer material flow from inbound receiving through kit staging and van loading, covering all material types: palletized large equipment, small parts, Systainer kits, consumables, and waste
  • Develop traffic lane designs that separate forklift and pedestrian routes in compliance with applicable OH&S requirements
  • Produce CAD drawings and PDF deliverables suitable for direct use in Jetson's operational playbooks and Notion‑based SOPs
  • Design for two standard warehouse configurations (single drive‑in door and two‑door variants) to support Jetson's market expansion model
  • Design comprehensive floor marking plans including zone boundaries, aisle lines, pedestrian walkways, forklift lanes, and keep‑clear areas
  • Specify floor marking materials, colour codes, and widths consistent with 5S visual standards
  • Develop a warehouse signage system covering overhead zone signs, directional signage, safety/warning signs, rack identification, and area‑specific procedural signage
  • Create a bin and shelf labeling standard compatible with Jetson's NetSuite bin naming convention, including QR code integration for scan‑based transactions
  • Produce annotated visual documentation packages for SOPs, playbooks, and training materials
  • Lead 5S readiness assessments for new and existing warehouse locations
  • Design physical environments that inherently support 5S principles: designated labeled storage for every item, shadow boards for tools and cleaning stations, visual controls that surface abnormal conditions immediately
  • Identify and eliminate flow bottlenecks, congestion points, and cross‑traffic conflicts through time studies, flow analysis, and direct observation
  • Build and maintain replicable warehouse design standards that can be deployed into each new Jetson market with minimal customization
  • Partner with the NetSuite/operations team to ensure bin labeling and zone naming conventions remain consistent across all warehouse locations
  • Own the warehouse design component of new market launch projects, coordinating with real estate, operations, and field leadership
What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a closely related discipline
  • 3+ years of hands‑on IE experience in distribution, logistics, or field‑service warehouse environments
  • Demonstrated experience designing warehouse layouts, material flow diagrams, and zone plans using CAD software
  • Proven 5S program design and implementation experience — including audit checklist development and sustain framework design
  • Strong visual management design skills: floor marking plans, signage systems, and bin/shelf labeling standards
  • Proficiency with CAD tools (AutoCAD or equivalent) for producing scaled, dimensioned warehouse drawings
  • Comfort working in and around active warehouse environments, including hands‑on site assessment and verification
  • Ability to travel to Jetson market warehouse locations across the US and Canada as needed
  • Experience with modern tools, including AI, to automate and make your day more efficient.
  • Experience with NetSuite or comparable WMS/ERP bin‑level inventory systems and label format design preferred
  • Experience designing for forklift/pedestrian separation and OH&S compliance in multi‑zone warehouse environments preferred
  • Background in multi‑site or franchise/network warehouse standardization — building playbooks that scale preferred
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent continuous improvement credentials preferred
  • Experience in the trades, HVAC, home services, or installation‑based field operations preferred
