To thrive as a Mobile Service Technician, you need strong diagnostic abilities, hands-on technical knowledge in automotive or equipment repair, and typically a relevant certification or vocational training. Familiarity with diagnostic tools, mobile service management apps, and vehicle repair systems is essential. Excellent customer service, time management, and problem-solving skills help technicians build trust and adapt to client needs on the go. These skills ensure efficient, high-quality repairs, customer satisfaction, and success in a field-based, dynamic work environment.

What are some of the most common challenges faced by Mobile Service Technicians, and how can they be addressed on the job?

Mobile Service Technicians often encounter challenges such as diagnosing complex issues on-site without access to a full workshop, managing tight schedules, and adapting to different working environments. To address these, it's important to stay organized, keep up-to-date with technical training, and maintain a well-stocked service vehicle. Communication skills are also crucial, as technicians regularly interact with customers and coordinate with office staff to ensure efficient service delivery.

What are mobile service technicians?

Mobile service technicians are professionals who travel to a customer's location to diagnose, repair, and maintain equipment, vehicles, or devices, rather than working from a fixed service center. They often work in industries such as automotive repair, electronics, or appliance servicing. Their primary advantage is providing convenient, on-site support, saving customers the hassle of transporting products. Mobile service technicians typically bring the necessary tools and parts with them to complete most jobs during their visit.

  • Travel to customer locations using a fully equipped mobile service van.

  • Perform maintenance, mechanical, and electrical repairs on a variety of vehicles.

  • Conduct pre- and post-collision scans and calibrations.

  • Provide brake repairs, replacements, welding, and diesel engine maintenance.

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues.

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and DOT inspections.

  • Document work performed and recommended services using company software.

  • Maintain and operate tools, equipment, and company-issued service vehicle safely.

  • Ensure compliance with environmental policies, safety standards, and manufacturer guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

  • Master technician skills with the ability to work independently

  • Strong mechanical and automotive competencies; electrical knowledge preferred

  • Professional attitude, excellent customer service skills, and ability to maintain a clean, organized workspace

  • ASE and I-CAR certifications desired but not required

  • Computer skills preferred

Physical Demands:

  • Perform maintenance, diagnostic, and repair tasks on vehicles and diesel engines

  • Conduct brake repairs and replacements

  • Use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks

  • Road-test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions

  • Lift and move heavy parts and equipment

Work Environment:

This is a scheduled, mobile role — you’ll work from a fully equipped van at customer locations, bringing dealership-level service directly to their door. The role requires independence, strong time management skills, and adaptability to handle a variety of mechanical and electrical tasks in the field.

Why Work With Us:

  • 401(k) with company math

  • Paid time off and holidays
