Job description

Leapros Skilled Trades is actively hiring Traveling Industrial Lead Low Voltage Technician in Des Moines, IA. The Traveling Industrial Lead Low Voltage Technician oversees on-site teams performing installation and maintenance of structured cabling systems within industrial and heavy commercial environments. This role requires a hands-on leader capable of managing complex projects in demanding settings, including cold storage and food production facilities, while maintaining high standards for CAT6 and fiber optic infrastructure. The ideal candidate is a mobile professional with extensive experience in industrial cabling, fiber terminations, and team leadership.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $30 to $35 Per Hour BOE

Licenses/Certifications Required:

  • NEC
  • TIA/EIA
  • Boom Lift Certification
  • Scissor Lift Certification

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise teams of low voltage technicians on industrial and heavy commercial job sites to ensure project completion.
  • Install, terminate, and troubleshoot structured cabling systems, including CAT6 and both multi-mode and single-mode fiber optics.
  • Oversee the installation and maintenance of CCTV, security, and alarm systems.
  • Execute cable runs and infrastructure builds within challenging environments such as cold storage and live production plants.
  • Interpret and follow blueprints, site maps, and technical schematics to ensure accurate installation.
  • Manage MDF/IDF buildouts and complete comprehensive project closeout documentation.
  • Install and run conduit systems, specifically 3/4 inch aluminum, Robroy, and stainless steel.
  • Coordinate daily schedules and work shifts, including weekend and night work, to align with facility operational needs.
  • Ensure all work adheres to safety protocols and industry standards such as BICSI and NEC regulations.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and materials to ensure the team has necessary resources for on-site execution.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience as a Lead Low Voltage Technician in industrial or heavy commercial environments.
  • Proven background in installing and troubleshooting structured cabling systems including CAT6 and Fiber.
  • Advanced knowledge of fiber optic termination types for both multi-mode and single-mode fibers.
  • Experience leading and mentoring field crews to meet project deadlines and quality standards.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction blueprints and site maps.
  • Demonstrated ability to install various types of conduit, including aluminum and stainless steel.
  • Flexibility to travel 100% nationally and work non-standard shifts, including weekends.
  • Reliable personal vehicle for mobilization to various project sites across the Midwest.
  • Strong understanding of MDF/IDF environments and standard industry closeout procedures.
  • Previous experience working in industrial settings such as food processing or cold storage facilities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to operate and work from boom or scissor lifts at heights exceeding 40 feet.
  • Capability to work in extreme temperatures and tough environments including cold storage and hot warehouses.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Must be able to stand, kneel, bend, and reach for extended periods during a shift.
  • Capacity to navigate industrial construction sites and climb ladders safely.
  • Visual acuity to distinguish color-coded wiring and read small print on technical documents.

Pay Transparency:

The anticipated pay range for this position is $30 to $35 per hour, based on relevant factors such as experience, skills, education, internal equity, and geographic location. Final compensation will be determined during the interview process by the hiring authority.
