Job Duties

Come Join our team of Registered Nurses that makes a difference!
Up to a $25,000 Bonus for Registered Nurses that are new to state service and remain with the facility for 2 years.
$15,000 sign on bonus will be awarded to new hires to state service with a one-year written agreement required.
An additional $10,000 retention bonus will be awarded to new hires who are hired after December 10, 2023. The retention bonus will be paid out one year after hire date and require a one-year written
agreement.
Competitive Shift Differentials:
1st shift weekend-$5.50 per hour
2nd shift-weekday-$5.50 per hour/2nd shift weekend/holidays-$6.00 per hour

The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental services support individuals by promoting recovery, self-determination, and wellness in all aspects of life. DBHDS operates 12 facilities: 8 behavioral health facilities for adults, a training center, a psychiatric facility for children and adolescents, a medical center, and a center for behavioral rehabilitation. State facilities provide highly structured, intensive services for individuals with mental illness, intellectual disability, or need substance use disorder services. DBHDS is committed to a life of possibilities for all Virginians. This position will work at Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute, a 72-bed Joint Commission accredited State Mental Health Facility, located in Danville, VA.
DBHDS is seeking dedicated, experienced Registered Nurse Professionals. A Registered Nurse II at DBHDS is responsible for providing advanced nursing care for patients with psychiatric disorders in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, as well as nursing standards and regulations.
Registered Nurses are also responsible for safely implementing the use of Seclusion/Restraints including knowledge of physical/emotional risk factors of the patients served at the facility.
Positions are available for our night shift (7:00 pm - 7:30 am) RN float pool and will work 12-hour shifts in a non-rotating Pitman schedule. This position may be required to work overtime. This position will work weekends on a rotating basis.
**This position requires completion of a consecutive 4-week New Employee Orientation for on-the-job training. Orientation hours are from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm with a one-hour lunch break for Orientation Week 1 and then as scheduled by the Nurse Educator for the remaining Orientation Weeks 2-4, which will include some night shift.**

Minimum Qualifications

Experience working as a Registered Nurse.
Current and in good standing Registered Nurse license to practice nursing in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or license eligible; multi-state compact endorsement is accepted.
Valid driver's license is required and must remain valid and in good standing throughout employment.
This position will also require:
Knowledge of the theory and practice of nursing and psychiatric nursing.
Knowledge and skills related to psychosocial rehabilitation/recovery models.
Successfully complete BLS, Therapeutic Options (TO) and other required training upon employment at facility.
Demonstrate effective interpersonal communication skills, team focused care and professional approach.
Displays the ability to plan, implement and evaluate care utilizing knowledge of pharmacology, psychiatric and physical disorders, and cultural needs of the individual psychiatric patient.
Presents good clinical knowledge and resource to staff.
Experience/Ability to delegate, supervise, evaluate nursing processes to help solve complex problems.
Registered Nurses are also responsible for safely implementing the use of Seclusion/Restraints including knowledge of physical/emotional risk factors of the patients served at the facility.

Additional Considerations

Experience as a Registered Nurse in a psychiatric, healthcare facility, acute care, long-term or correctional setting.
Veterans and people with National Service.
Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English.
