Job Summary

To perform general plant maintenance of a skilled nature involving specialized training and skill in such occupations as mobile equipment prevention and repair; mechanical, carpentry, painting, electricity, electronics, pipe fitting, welding, and other such trades.

MAIN POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Tools and Equipment

Drill presses, grinders, welders, electric and electronic test instruments, pipe benders, power saws, brushes, spray equipment, hand tools, sheet metal working equipment, etc.

Materials

Plant operating equipment, motors, panels, instruments, automatic selecting devices, utility lines and facilities, mobile equipment, etc.

Directs Mechanic General and Mechanic Standard Work.

Typical Duties

  • Repairs, overhauls and services mechanized equipment. (i.e. hoists, elevators, conveyors, mobile equipment, hi-lifts, etc.)
  • Performs carpentry work in construction, repairing or modifying structures, cabinets, scaffolds, shelves, offices, jogs, fixtures, etc.
  • Uses brushes and spray guns in painting interiors and exteriors, equipment, etc., including preparation of surfaces and mixing paints.
  • Installs and maintains utility lines for gas, water, air, etc., including general plumbing work.
  • Installs, moves, repairs and maintains mechanical and electronic selecting devices.
  • Removes, installs, repairs and checks plant mechanical devices and equipment.
  • Cuts, brazes and welds various metals used on construction of forms, guard rails, catwalks, runways, stairs, etc.
  • Inspects plant equipment and follows preventative maintenance program.
  • Performs miscellaneous tasks as required.
  • Perform vibration calibration and testing
  • Inspect mechanical components of vehicles/equipment to identify problems
  • Order materials, supplies, or equipment
  • Develop equipment or component configurations
  • Read technical information needed to perform maintenance or repairs
  • Troubleshoot equipment or systems operation problems
  • Clean equipment, parts, or tools to repair or maintain them in good working order
  • Record information about parts, materials or repair procedures.
  • Remove snow.
  • Lay out work according to specifications.
  • Plan work procedures.
  • Measure distances or dimensions.
  • Install and/or repair heating, ventilation, or air conditioning (HVAC) equipment.
  • Assemble mechanical components or machine parts.
  • Clean work areas.
  • Fabricate parts or components.
  • Train others in operational procedures.

Qualifications

Minimum 6 years of facility maintenance experience.
