What does a Mobile React Native Developer do?

A Mobile React Native Developer designs and builds mobile applications using the React Native framework, which allows developers to write code in JavaScript and deploy it to both iOS and Android platforms. Their main responsibilities include creating user interfaces, integrating APIs, debugging, and optimizing app performance. They collaborate closely with designers, backend developers, and other stakeholders to deliver seamless, high-quality mobile experiences. React Native developers also keep up with the latest trends and updates in mobile development to ensure apps remain modern and efficient.

What are the common challenges faced by Mobile React Native Developers when working on cross-platform projects?

Mobile React Native Developers often encounter challenges related to ensuring consistent user experiences across both iOS and Android platforms. Differences in native components, device performance, and operating system behaviors can require additional debugging and platform-specific adjustments. Collaboration with designers and backend developers is essential to align on requirements and address integration issues early. Staying current with frequent library updates and community best practices also helps in maintaining app stability and performance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Mobile React Native Developer?

To thrive as a Mobile React Native Developer, you need strong proficiency in JavaScript, React Native, and mobile development principles, often supported by a degree in computer science or related experience. Job description

Trilon is building a supercharged, technology-enabled future for our people and partners. The React Native Engineer plays a critical role in that mission by building the mobile application that connects field teams directly to the Digital Platform.
You own the mobile experience end to end, from the interface field engineers, inspectors, and surveyors use on job sites to the data flows that move field inputs into the platform. The application you build captures the raw material that powers downstream AI-driven workflows and engineering deliverables.
This is a field-first engineering role. You design for real-world conditions where connectivity is inconsistent, environments are demanding, and users are focused on the job, not the software. You build reliable, intuitive mobile experiences that support offline workflows, synchronize data seamlessly, and integrate with device capabilities such as GPS and camera.
You work closely with the Lead Engineer, Applied AI Engineer, and Senior Product Designer to ensure the mobile application aligns with platform architecture and design standards. You also partner with Product Support Analysts and field teams to understand how the app is used in practice and continuously improve usability and data quality.
This role requires strong React Native expertise, experience building production mobile applications, and a focus on performance, reliability, and user experience in field environments. You are motivated by building tools that work when and where they are needed most.
Mobile Application Development
  • Design, build, and maintain cross-platform mobile applications using React Native
  • Develop intuitive user interfaces for field data capture and interaction
  • Ensure high performance and responsiveness across a range of mobile devices
  • Maintain code quality, testing, and application stability
Offline-First Architecture and Data Synchronization
  • Design and implement offline-capable workflows for unreliable connectivity environments
  • Build robust data synchronization mechanisms between mobile devices and backend systems
  • Handle conflict resolution, data integrity, and retry logic for field-collected data
  • Optimize performance for low-bandwidth and intermittent network conditions
Native Device Integration
  • Integrate with device capabilities such as GPS, camera, photo capture, and sensors
  • Build workflows for capturing, storing, and transmitting images and geospatial data
  • Ensure seamless interaction between native modules and React Native components
Platform Integration
  • Integrate mobile applications with backend APIs and platform services
  • Ensure field data flows cleanly into the data and AI layers of the platform
  • Collaborate with backend and AI engineers to support end-to-end workflows
  • Maintain consistency with platform architecture and data models
User Experience and Field Validation
  • Partner with the Senior Product Designer to implement consistent, intuitive user experiences
  • Work with Product Support Analysts to identify usability issues and friction points
  • Incorporate feedback from field users to improve workflows and adoption
  • Participate in field engagements or project hackathons to understand real-world usage
CI/CD and Release Management
  • Build and maintain mobile CI/CD pipelines for iOS and Android deployments
  • Manage app releases, versioning, and distribution processes
  • Monitor application performance and resolve production issues
  • 4+ years of experience in mobile application development
  • Strong proficiency in React Native and TypeScript
  • Experience building and deploying cross-platform applications for iOS and Android
  • Experience designing and implementing offline-first mobile applications
  • Experience with data synchronization, conflict resolution, and mobile data storage
  • Experience integrating native device capabilities such as GPS, camera, and sensors
  • Experience consuming and integrating RESTful APIs
  • Familiarity with mobile CI/CD pipelines and app deployment processes
  • Strong understanding of mobile performance optimization and debugging
  • Experience working in agile, product-oriented development environments
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience building applications for field-based professionals in construction, engineering, utilities, or similar industries is a strong advantage
  • Familiarity with geospatial data, mapping, or location-based services is a plus
  • Experience working with offline data capture and synchronization at scale is highly preferred
  • Curiosity about how field teams operate and how technology can improve their workflows
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment with evolving product requirements
