Job description

We are seeking an experienced and driven General Sales Manager (GSM) for Ross Downing Auto Group at our Ross Downing CDJR of Mobile dealership. The GSM will be responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the sales department to achieve sales and profitability goals, desk and structure deals, enhance customer satisfaction, and build a high-performing sales team. This individual will develop and execute sales strategies, monitor department performance, maintain accountability to dealership processes, and foster a customer-focused, results-driven culture throughout the dealership. Key Responsibilities:
  • Sales Leadership & Operations
    • Lead all daily operations of the New and Used Vehicle Sales Departments
    • Desk and structure deals to maximize profitability while maintaining lender and dealership compliance
    • Work directly with sales managers and sales consultants to close deals and overcome customer objections
    • Drive monthly sales volume, gross profit, market share, and customer satisfaction goals
    • Monitor appointments, lead handling, closing percentages, and sales activities daily
    • Conduct daily sales meetings and performance reviews
    • Ensure consistent execution of dealership sales processes and CRM usage
    • Maintain strong accountability throughout the sales team
  • Team Development
    • Recruit, hire, train, mentor, and develop sales managers and sales consultants
    • Build and maintain a positive, competitive, and process-oriented culture
    • Coach employees on product knowledge, negotiation, closing techniques, and customer experience
    • Set clear expectations and performance standards for the sales team
    • Motivate staff to achieve individual and team goals
  • Customer Experience
    • Ensure every customer receives an exceptional buying experience
    • Handle customer escalations and resolve issues professionally
    • Monitor CSI performance and implement improvement plans when necessary
    • Promote transparency, professionalism, and integrity throughout the sales process
  • Inventory Management
    • Partner with inventory and used car managers to maintain proper inventory levels
    • Monitor used vehicle pricing and market competitiveness
    • Manage inventory aging and turn strategy
    • Ensure proper merchandising standards including lot presentation, online listings, and vehicle photos
  • Financial Performance
    • Monitor department profitability, front-end gross, and expense control
    • Collaborate with the Finance & Insurance Department to maximize opportunities
    • Analyze reports, trends, and dealership financials to improve performance
    • Ensure compliance with dealership policies, lender guidelines, and legal regulations

    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive sales management, with a proven track record of success.
    • Strong leadership and team-building skills.
