Job description

A Mobile Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for repairing and maintaining machinery for Milhouse Forestry. They will inspect and diagnose malfunctions in heavy equipment such as giraffe, skid steer, forestry tractor, bucket truck, chip truck, chippers and fleet vehicles. They will travel to job sites to perform repairs and maintenance in the field. 
What you will do:
  • Repairs and maintains large machinery, including forestry-related equipment, hydraulics, and mobile mechanical equipment.  
  • Testing equipment, analyzing malfunctions, and using manual and electrical tools to fix broken parts.  
  • Be able to assemble gear systems, fit bearings, weld broken parts, fabricate parts from sheet metal.
  • Keep machines clean and functioning up to industry standards.  
  • Transports equipment as needed to ensure crews have the proper equipment needed. 
  • Working with vendors to understand warranty standards and specifications.  
  • Measures effectiveness in establishing appropriate reporting and control procedures; operating efficiently at the lowest cost; staying within established budgets. 
  • Maintain and update inventory of spare parts and tools.  
  • Adhere to company policies and safety guidelines. 
What we are looking for:
  • Measures effectiveness in time management; initiative and independent action within prescribed limits.
  • Establishing min/max levels for necessary parts needed to ensure availability.
  • Proficiency in understanding and repairing diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and other heavy equipment components.
  • Ability to diagnose issues quickly and accurately to determine the best course of action for repairs.
  • Capability to lift heavy parts and equipment and work in physically demanding environments.
  • Ensure all repairs and maintenance are performed to the highest standards to avoid equipment failure.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members, forestry leadership, and equipment operators.
Your background:
  • To be Department of Transportation (DOT) certified.
  • To have a Class A or Class B driver's license.
  • Diesel Mechanic Certification.
  • Formal training in heavy equipment repair and maintenance.
$30 - $36 an hour
The actual base pay depends upon many factors, such as education, experience, and skills. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
