Mobile Applications Development information

What is mobile applications development?

Mobile applications development is the process of creating software applications that run on mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets. These apps are typically designed for operating systems like Android or iOS. The development process includes designing the user interface, writing code, testing, and deploying the app to app stores. Developers often use programming languages like Java, Kotlin, Swift, or frameworks such as React Native to build these applications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a mobile applications developer?

To thrive as a Mobile Applications Developer, you need strong programming skills in languages such as Java, Kotlin, Swift, or Dart, along with a degree in computer science or related field. Familiarity with development frameworks (like Android Studio or Xcode), version control systems (such as Git), and mobile UI/UX guidelines is crucial. Creativity, problem-solving, and effective communication help developers collaborate and adapt to rapidly changing requirements. These skills ensure the delivery of high-quality, user-friendly apps that meet business and customer needs in a competitive market.

What are some common challenges faced by mobile applications developers when working on cross-platform projects?

Mobile applications developers working on cross-platform projects often encounter challenges such as maintaining consistent user experiences across different devices and operating systems. Ensuring compatibility and optimal performance can be difficult due to variations in hardware, screen sizes, and OS-specific features. Additionally, integrating native device functionalities and keeping up with frequent updates to platforms like iOS and Android require continuous learning and adaptation. Collaboration with designers, QA testers, and backend teams is essential to address these complexities effectively.

At Viv Technologies, we're passionate about the power of digital transformation. That means continuously improving our home care software platform, built specifically for multi-site home care operators. We're proud to support some of North America's biggest home care operators. Together, we help tens of thousands of clients safely age in the comfort of their homes.

This is a manual QA role. This role is based in Toronto. Though we're currently working remotely, the chosen candidate must reside in or be within easy reach of the GTA as they will need to work in-office as needed periodically.

About the Role

The Senior QA Analyst is an integral member of the manual Quality Assurance team and is responsible for manual testing of Viv's web and mobile applications to ensure proper functionality while adhering to defined project timelines. Through the use of a variety of tools, the Senior QA Analyst works to continuously improve software products and applications. This role involves leading manual testing projects, writing and executing test cases, logging defects, and investigating issues. The Senior QA Analyst is involved "hands-on" with the development team, ensures that all testing is thoroughly completed and that the software functions with the highest standard of quality possible.

What You'll Do

  • Develop a deep understanding of Product under test and associated requirements.
  • End-to-end manual testing native mobile apps and web platform including creating test plans, test case development, test execution, and defect remediation.
  • Accurately groom stories so that they account for testing and quality metrics by using your knowledge and experience to help our Scrum teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborate with Project stakeholders to understand project requirements, identify test scenarios, design test cases, and create testing artifacts (Test Strategy/Test Plan).
  • Ensure end-to-end quality of our products and services by identifying and executing the appropriate testing strategies.
  • Collaborate with developers and other team members to ensure comprehensive test coverage and effective collaboration; recommending changes to release plans, as needed, to address critical quality issues.
  • Execute test cases within the agreed upon timelines ensuring the application is performing as expected.
  • Analyze test results, investigate, report, and track product issues, thereby improving overall quality.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer science or related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a manual QA role, with at least 2 years in a senior manual QA role in software testing environments for web-based and mobile applications.
  • Adept with Agile scrum methodologies.
  • Understanding of the software development lifecycle, quality assurance methods and testing principles.
  • Strong experience in functional, integration, ad hoc and exploratory testing methodologies.
  • Experience developing and maintaining test cases.
  • Good communication skills and a team player.
  • Attention to detail, tech-savvy with the ability to quickly learn the product.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • An ability to learn, adapt and grow in response to challenges within the healthcare industry.
  • Previous startup experience is highly preferred.

Nice To Have

  • Certification in QA or software development (ISTQB, CSTE).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Experience with POSTMAN.
  • Experience in data analysis.
  • Fluency in Spanish, Russian or other languages is an asset.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary and benefits.
  • A flexible and energetic corporate culture that works with your lifestyle.
  • A chance to work with a strong team that values the opinions of every member.
  • Opportunities to be mentored and grow your skills as a Senior QA Analyst.
