You will be the technical authority on our mobile platform – setting engineering standards, making key architectural decisions, removing blockers for your team, and partnering with business and technology leadership to shape the mobile roadmap. This is a hands-on leadership role: you will remain close to the code while elevating the entire team around you.
**Key Responsibilities**
**Technical Leadership & Architecture**
Define and own the mobile technical architecture strategy across React Native, iOS (Swift/Kotlin), and Android platforms.

Establish and enforce engineering best practices, coding standards, and design patterns across the team.
Lead technical design reviews and drive adoption of emerging mobile technologies and frameworks.
Solid experience with RESTful API integration, Firebase, and Google Cloud Platform.
Oversee CI/CD pipeline health, release engineering processes, and platform-level quality gates.
**Team Leadership & Mentorship**
Lead, coach, and mentor a team of mobile apps developers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous growth.
Conduct regular code reviews, providing constructive feedback that elevates code quality and team capability.
Support hiring and onboarding of mobile engineering talent; help define the technical bar for the team.
Champion collective code ownership, pair programming, and knowledge-sharing practices.
Identify skill gaps within the team and create development plans and learning opportunities.
**Delivery & Product Partnership**
Partner with Product Managers and UX designers to shape the mobile application roadmap, ensuring technical feasibility and strategic alignment.
Own technical backlog grooming and sprint planning, translating product goals into well-scoped engineering work.
Drive end-to-end delivery of major features and initiatives across Sobeys' mobile applications and solutions.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (backend, QA, DevOps, data) to ensure seamless integration and delivery.
Lead incident resolution for high-severity production issues, performing root cause analysis and implementing lasting fixes.
Engage with vendor engineers in technical discussions and collaborative code reviews to drive quality enhancements.
**Innovation & Continuous Improvement**
Continuously evaluate the mobile technology landscape and introduce improvements to tooling, frameworks, and development practices.
Drive a culture of code refactoring and technical debt reduction across the mobile codebase.
Lead efforts to expand automated testing, monitoring, and observability of mobile applications.
Contribute to strategic initiatives and present technical recommendations to engineering leadership.

**Requirements**
8+ years of professional software development experience, with a demonstrated track record in production-grade mobile applications.
5+ years of hands-on experience in React Native, Kotlin, and Swift.
2+ years in a technical lead, staff engineer, or senior architect role, with direct mentorship of senior developers.
Deep expertise in mobile app architecture patterns (MVC, MVP, MVVM, Clean Architecture) and the tradeoffs between them.
Proven ability to design scalable, performant, and maintainable mobile systems across iOS and Android.
Strong command of SDLC principles, Agile/Scrum methodologies, and backlog management.
Expert-level knowledge of mobile development tooling: Gradle, Git, Gerrit, Gitflow workflow, and CI/CD pipelines.
Proficiency in RxJava, Coroutines, Flow, and concurrency patterns for multithreaded mobile applications.
Solid experience with RESTful API integration, Firebase, and Google Cloud Platform.
Demonstrated leadership skills: ability to inspire, guide, and hold accountable a team of senior engineers.
Excellent communication skills – able to articulate complex technical concepts to both engineering peers and non-technical stakeholders.
