Job Duties and Responsibilities

Candidates must be willing to participate in at least one in-person interview, which may include a live whiteboarding or technical assessment session.

Enterprise Android deployments require robust architecture, reliable playback, and enterprise-grade observability across diverse device fleets. The Principal Android Engineer solves critical scale and stability challenges across the full Android stack, from low-level media playback engines to modular application frameworks. As a thought leader and technical anchor, this role not only shapes the internal architecture but also drives outward-facing integration projects and aligns engineering deliverables with overarching business goals. This position establishes technical roadmaps, sets engineering standards, and optimizes release pipelines for mission-critical customer software. By integrating modern Android architectures and AI-assisted engineering workflows, the role ensures operational reliability and continuous system performance across all deployed hardware.

What Success Looks Like (Objectives)
  • Act as the technical anchor for the business, translating overarching company objectives into actionable engineering strategies that drive platform growth and market success.
  • Spearhead high-stakes, outward-facing integration projects collaborating directly with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), silicon vendors, and key B2B integration partners.
  • Act as a thought leader and primary technical authority for the broader engineering organization, driving architectural alignment across product, backend, and external partner teams.
  • Lead the technical architecture and long-term roadmap of the enterprise Android application, modularizing the codebase to support rapid feature deployment and system scalability.
  • Establish a core observability foundation—including real-time metrics, logging, crash telemetry, and field analytics—to improve application reliability across all deployed customer devices.
  • Drive media playback performance and streaming reliability across the fleet using advanced frameworks, digital rights management, and adaptive protocols.
  • Integrate AI-assisted development tools and automated workflows into the engineering lifecycle to increase team throughput and elevate code quality standards.
Skills, Experience and RequirementsCore Skills and Competencies (What you’ll bring)
  • Demonstrated thought leadership with the ability to act as the definitive technical escalation point (anchor), capable of driving organizational change and presenting architectural vision to executive stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial awareness and the ability to drive business outcomes by balancing technical perfection with speed-to-market, complex external integration requirements, and ROI.
  • Deep expertise in modern Android development standards, including Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, coroutines, and scalable architectural patterns.
  • Proven critical experience leading production-scale media playback architectures utilizing ExoPlayer/Media3, adaptive streaming protocols (HLS/DASH), and digital rights management.
  • Proficiency in AI application within software engineering workflows to optimize code review processes, automated testing, and development efficiency.
  • Demonstrated competency in high-scale Android application quality management, including continuous integration, automated testing strategies, and field telemetry analysis.
Additional Qualifications
  • Experience with Android TV, embedded Android, or set-top box form factors

  • Experience with live television, streaming video, or low-latency media applications

  • Experience working with original equipment manufacturers, silicon vendors, or platform integration partners

Minimum Requirements
  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)

  • Minimum Experience: 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant experience as a technical lead on Android applications

  • Required Technical Skills: Must have experience with:

    • Kotlin, Jetpack, and modern Android architectural frameworks

    • Media playback frameworks (ExoPlayer or Media3) and streaming protocols

    • System observability, automated CI/CD pipelines, and enterprise application lifecycle management
