Job Title: Patient Financial Counselor

Location: Minneapolis, MN (This role is fully on-site)

Pay Rate: $22.00-$26.00 / Per Hour dependent on applicable experience

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated patient financial counselor to support a fast‑paced, high‑volume medical clinic within a multi-specialty driven environment. This role is ideal for a detail‑oriented professional with deep experience in insurance verification, claims processing, and insurance verification and eligibility activities, including explaining financial obligations to patients.

The Patient Financial Counselor will be a key contributor to accurate financial reimbursement and timely revenue cycle, working closely with billing and finance teams.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Financial Counselor

  • Verify insurance, eligibility and evaluate financial assistance
  • Attach patient insurance information to patient profiles and attach documentation
  • Review claims for proper documentations, coding, and compliance with internal policies
  • Investigate and resolve claims discrepancies, including missing or incomplete documentation and incorrect demographic information
  • Call patients to discuss outstanding balances, collect current updated insurance information, and collect patient payments over the phone to be applied to their accounts
  • Call insurance carriers to follow-up on unpaid or rejected claims
  • Work with the State of Minnesota MNSure guidelines to verify eligibility for MNSure marketplace
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must have 2+ years of insurance experience, with direct exposure to customer service and patient financial conversations
  • Must have experience with insurance and electronic health record keeping systems
  • Prefer previous MNsure Navigator Certification, and must be willing to re-certify if lapsed
  • Must have experience working with diverse populations
  • Proven experience in a business office setting
  • Strong understanding of insurance coverage and eligibility
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage deadlines and prioritize work independently
  • Proficiency with Epic EMR system
  • Strong communication and problem‑solving skills
