Job description

Nature of Work HOURS 20-29 hours per week, must be available to work mostly evenings, weekends, including Sundays, and Holidays. NATURE OF WORK Under general supervision of Store Managers, performs routine work in floating between all four municipal liquor stores, including stocking, assisting customers, cashiering duties and opening and closing the store(s). Also assumes supervisory duties in absence of the Store Manager.

Job Duties ESSENTIAL DUTIES Opens and closes the store(s) following proper procedures including some bookkeeping. Also prepares bank deposits. In the absence of a store manager, will assist in ordering merchandise.

Checks, unloads truck shipments and stocks beer, wine, liquor and other miscellaneous liquor and bar supplies. Assists in filling existing merchandise shelves and displays including dusting merchandise to maintain attractive displays of items for majority of shifts. Assists customers in locating items for purchase and aids them in making selection, if requested.

Carries purchases to vehicles for customer if needed. Cards customers in accordance with City policy. Operates lottery sales machine and cash register as needed, including checking identification and assessing potential instances of customer intoxication, to ensure legal liquor sales and proper check acceptance procedures.

Participates in occasional store inventory control to a limited degree and periodic inventory counts. Assists in establishing and preparing merchandising of the month (ie. Wine of the month, Beer of the month).

Performs other miscellaneous janitorial duties and other duties as assigned. Supports and enforces City policies, procedures, operations and safety rules. Performs various special projects or assignments upon request.

COMPETENCIES Demonstrates some knowledge of beer, wine and spirits. Demonstrates knowledge and skill in the operation of a cash register. Demonstrates knowledge of proper methods to be used in meeting and serving the public.

Demonstrates knowledge of MN Lottery sales and payout procedures. Demonstrates ability to learn liquor store clerical work, including stock clerking duties and cashiering. Demonstrates ability to establish and maintain positive, professional working relationships with others.

Demonstrates ability to be on time and ready to work when scheduled. Demonstrates ability to courteously and effectively meet and serve the public. Demonstrates ability to be self-motivated.

Demonstrates ability to handle stressful situations in a calm and effective manner. Demonstrates ability to properly handle confidential matters and information. Demonstrates ability to perform basic arithmetic computations.

Demonstrates ability to follow established directions and procedures. Demonstrates basic computer skills, including Word and Excel. Demonstrates ability to understand and respect the diversity of customers and co-workers, effectively communicating with individuals whose first language may be one other than English.

Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma or General Education Development Certificate (GED) Experience in the use of a personal computer. Must be at least 21 years old. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Two years of retail sales experience.

Specific experience in retail beverage sales desired. Cashiering and lottery experience helpful. Bi-lingual in Spanish.

Supplemental Information PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands that are described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Must have the ability to: Ability to stand for extended periods of time. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Ability to bend and lift items of moderate weight, up to 50-80 pounds per case, with another individual, when required.
