Job description

Yale New Haven Hospital has positions available for certified or certification eligible Medical Lab Professions. MLS, MT, MLT’s and those with applicable ASCP categorical certifications are welcome to apply. As a member of our Laboratory Medicine team, you will get to work with some of the leading experts in a number of specialty fields every day. The department’s fast-paced team-oriented atmosphere creates an environment that is progressive, challenging and rewarding—both personally and professionally.


Responsibilities

Follows all laboratory and hospital safety policies.

Operates all department equipment safely and according to manufacturer guidelines. Performs preventative maintenance and troubleshoots instrument failures to best of ability alerting proper personnel of equipment problems.

Follows all department QC procedures and troubleshoots QC failures with proper documentation.

Participates in inter and intra-departmental QA initiatives.

Responds to any departments’ staffing needs by covering shifts, when necessary.

Maintains technical competency and seeks clarification when necessary.

Effectively utilizes all necessary LIS functions.

Meets performance expectations for Customer Service, Teamwork, Resource Utilization, and Self Development.

Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the department.

MLT QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

Education:

AS degree in Laboratory Science or MLT from an accredited institution or equivalent required.

Experience:

Previous experience preferred.

Training:

Need to orient to lab wide department procedures and policies.

Licensure:

American Society of Clinical Pathologists (MLT-ASCP) preferred.

Other:

Medical Technologist QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or equivalent required.

Experience:

Previous experience preferred.

Training:

Need to orient to lab wide department procedures and policies.

Licensure:

American Society of Clinical Pathologists certification (MT-ASCP) preferred.

Performs and accurately evaluates testing in one or more of the following sections as directed by manager: Hematology, Chemistry, Blood Bank and Microbiology.

Is able to prioritize workload to ensure optimal patient care.
