Job description

CWM is seeking an experienced and skilled Asphalt Plant Operator to join our team. The Asphalt Plant Operator will be responsible for operating plant controls to weigh and deliver specified quantities of aggregates and asphalt cement to the dryer for heating, and to the mixer for mixing. The operator will also maintain proper heat in the dryer, ensure the proper flow of materials, and assist in the maintenance of plant equipment. This role involves compiling reports on plant production and maintenance, ensuring efficient plant operations, and performing other related duties as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Operate asphalt plant controls to manage the flow of materials, including weighing and delivering aggregates and asphalt cement to the dryer and mixer.
  • Maintain proper heat levels in the dryer by adjusting thermostatic controls.
  • Ensure proper flow of materials to the mixer and oversee the dumping of the mixed asphalt into trucks.
  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of plant equipment to ensure safe and effective operation.
  • Compile daily production and maintenance reports, documenting plant output and any equipment issues.
  • Perform physical tasks such as climbing, bending, stooping, lifting (up to 50 pounds), reaching, and working in varied positions throughout the shift.
  • Operate tools and equipment such as wrenches, screwdrivers, cutting torches, welders, pneumatic hammers, sandblasters, and hand shovels.
  • Answer the telephone and radio, taking and inputting orders for materials as needed.
  • Work in outdoor environments and be exposed to hot or cold weather conditions.
  • Work overtime as required, with occasional night and weekend shifts to meet production goals.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong math skills and mechanical aptitude are essential.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as an Asphalt Plant Operator.
  • Experience with Astec double barrel components and Gencor controls is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and basic computer skills required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in operating and maintaining asphalt plant equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to make adjustments to plant controls to maintain product quality.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for reporting and coordinating with team members.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
