The Center on Reinventing Public Education (CRPE), a leading source for transformative, evidence-based ideas about public education, is seeking an intellectually curious, detail driven, and dynamic professional to assume the role of Research Analyst.
The Research Analyst will contribute qualitative or mixed methods research skills to research projects across the center, playing a key role in conducting and managing data collection and analysis, writing, and presenting to external stakeholders. They have the opportunity to independently conduct analysis and grow in research project leadership over time. The right candidate shows imagination and originality in their work and is not afraid to revisit settled conclusions, including their own.
CRPE is a strong fit for professionals who possess an entrepreneurial spirit, enjoy working in a fast-paced, high-impact environment, and are committed to creating equitable opportunities for children, families, and educators. The Research Analyst will report to a Research Principal or Senior Research Analyst.
About CRPE
The Center on Reinventing Public Education (CRPE) is a research organization at Arizona State University's Mary Lou Fulton College for Teaching and Learning Innovation, where transformative ideas are rigorously examined and tested, and research informs action. Since 1993, we have remained independent of any single ideology while holding firmly to our core belief that public education is a goal-to prepare every child for citizenship, economic independence, and personal fulfillment-and not a particular set of institutions.
From that foundation, we study what it will take for public education to meet every student's needs and use those insights to inform meaningful changes in policy and practice.
Our current research explores four broad topics:
  • Students and Families: We work to understand what students and families need from their education system-and how schools can rise to meet those needs.
  • Systems: We examine the inner workings of schools, districts, and state governments, delivering insights into how our education systems work to meet the needs of students, families, and communities.
  • Innovations: We identify promising initiatives outside the traditional education system that have the potential to radically improve teaching and learning, including artificial intelligence, new teacher staffing models, and district-wide innovations.
  • Politics of Change: We study the critical role of politics in determining whether school systems deliver on their promise, and explore the ways public officials, school system leaders, and change-makers can factor political thinking into their strategies for improving education.

By partnering with the Mary Lou Fulton College, a leader in designing the Next Education Workforce™, we are uniquely positioned to produce evidence and ideas that lead the country toward an education system that meets the needs of every student. Over the next five years, we aim to be the go-to source for defining a clear vision and high bar for successful post-pandemic recovery, tracking progress toward that vision, and testing bold ideas for students.
Essential Duties:
  • Manage qualitative and mixed methods data collection, cleaning and analysis (e.g., conducting interviews and coding and analyzing data).
  • Synthesize research findings.
  • Write reports, blogs, and briefings.
  • Support research projects on topics like artificial intelligence in schools, districts and states; school district innovation; and leadership for a new era of education.
  • Independently manage the collection and analysis of qualitative data, drawing upon interviews, focus groups, and site observations.
  • Use qualitative and quantitative evidence to draw appropriate and important conclusions that are relevant to the field and situate work in important policy debates, research, and current events.
  • Review and synthesize existing research and policy on new and existing education issues.
  • Partner with senior researchers to initiate and lead the writing of high-impact reports, blogs, and briefings that meet the twin tests of academic respectability and potential significance for policy
  • Support research project management by developing work plans, managing timelines, and coordinating with internal teams.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Graduate degree in education, education policy, or a related discipline, preferred.
  • Relevant work experience with topics of artificial intelligence in schools, school district innovation, and the education landscape broadly.
  • Experience working in schools, districts, and/or education nonprofits.
  • Demonstrated skills in qualitative or mixed-method research, including experience independently executing research methods.
  • Strong writing skills, including the ability to produce concise and compelling research products designed for non-academic audiences, and flexibility to adapt writing to CRPE's style.
  • Evidence of 2 + years successfully contributing to and showing increasing leadership with complex research projects.

Working Environment:
  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting and involve extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and use of a computer mouse.
  • Position may require travel between campus locations or buildings for meetings or job-related tasks.
  • Regular activities require the ability to manage and adjust to changing priorities, including handling time-sensitive tasks and resolving conflicts.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours as necessary on short or limited notice.
  • Position receives regular review of objectives.
  • MLFC supports flexible work options for certain positions, such as alternate work schedules and hybrid remote arrangements, subject to approvals per ASU policy.
