Mission Integration information

What is a Mission Integration?

A Mission Integration job focuses on ensuring that an organization's operations, policies, and culture align with its core mission, values, and ethical principles. Professionals in this role work to embed the mission into decision-making, employee engagement, and community impact. They often collaborate across departments to provide leadership in areas such as ethics, spirituality, social responsibility, and organizational identity. This role is common in mission-driven organizations, including healthcare, education, and nonprofits.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in mission integration roles?

To thrive in a Mission Integration role, you need a background in systems engineering, project management, and strong analytical skills, often backed by a degree in engineering, aerospace, or a related technical field. Familiarity with tools like Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) software, integration and test environments, and certifications such as PMP or INCOSE CSEP are typically advantageous. Exceptional communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities help professionals in this position work effectively across multidisciplinary teams. These skills are crucial for ensuring all technical requirements and operational objectives are seamlessly aligned throughout a mission’s lifecycle.

What are some typical challenges faced by professionals in mission integration roles?

Professionals in Mission Integration often navigate the complexity of aligning diverse technical teams, timelines, and system requirements to achieve seamless project execution. Adapting to rapid changes in mission objectives, balancing competing priorities, and managing the integration of hardware and software systems are common challenges. This role also requires frequent collaboration with engineering, operations, and customer teams to resolve technical issues swiftly. Successfully handling these challenges contributes directly to the mission’s overall success and provides valuable opportunities for professional growth and leadership experience within the organization.

Job description

Position Title

Vice President for Mission and Ministry

Position Overview

Marquette University invites nominations and applications for an inspiring and strategic leader to serve as its next Vice President for Mission & Ministry—a pivotal role at one of the nation’s leading Catholic, Jesuit universities.

Duties and Responsibilities

This is a rare opportunity to help shape the future of a university deeply committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service — and to advance a mission that forms students to become leaders “for and with others.” Reporting directly to the president and serving on the President’s Cabinet, the Vice President for Mission & Ministry will guide mission integration across academic, student life, and community engagement efforts at a transformative moment in Marquette’s history. This role will play a central role in bringing the vision from the institutional strategic plan to life – strengthening Catholic, Jesuit identity while engaging a diverse, global community of learners.

The Vice President for Mission & Ministry will:

  • Serve as a compelling ambassador for Marquette’s Catholic, Jesuit mission on campus and beyond.
  • Foster mission integration in academic programs, student formation, and campus culture.
  • Provide innovative leadership for Campus Ministry and Ignatian spirituality initiatives.
  • Partner with faculty and administrators to embed mission in hiring, development, and decision‑making.
  • Champion inclusion, dialogue, and care for the whole person (cura personalis).

This role offers the chance to shape a national model for Jesuit higher education — ensuring that mission is not only preserved but dynamically lived in a rapidly changing world.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

A deep commitment to Catholic, Jesuit higher education; experience leading in complex organizations; the ability to communicate mission with clarity and conviction; and the collaborative leadership style needed to unite diverse voices around shared purpose.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Preference will be given to members of the Society of Jesus. A terminal degree and demonstrated understanding of the vocation of faculty at a major university is strongly preferred.
