Reports To: Principal and Superintendent of Schools
Terms: September 16, 2026- December 23, 2026
Position Overview
The Roselle Park School District is seeking an experienced, student-centered educational
leader to serve as an Interim Assistant Principal. The successful candidate will work closely
with the Principal and school staff to provide strong day-to-day leadership and help maintain a
safe, supportive, and academically focused school environment.
The Interim Assistant Principal will have a visible presence throughout the school and will assist
with student discipline, staff supervision, instructional leadership, school operations, safety,
scheduling, and communication with students, staff, and families. The successful candidate
should be able to step into the position quickly, build positive relationships, make sound
decisions, and provide consistent leadership during the interim period.
Qualifications
Candidates must possess:
? Valid New Jersey Principal Certificate or Certificate of Eligibility.
? Administrative and educational experience appropriate for the position.
? Demonstrated leadership experience in curriculum, instruction, staff development,
program evaluation, and school improvement.
? Experience working with student discipline, school climate, and behavioral concerns.
? Ability to establish and maintain high expectations for student behavior and academic
achievement.
? Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
? Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, support staff, students,
parents, and the community.
? Strong technology, writing, and record-keeping skills.
? Required criminal history background clearance.
? New Jersey residency or ability to meet applicable New Jersey residency requirements.
Responsibilities
The Interim Assistant Principal will:
? Assist the Principal with the overall leadership and administration of the school.
? Serve as the building administrator in the absence of the Principal.
? Maintain a visible administrative presence during arrival, dismissal, lunch periods,
student transitions, extracurricular activities, and other school events.
? Support a positive school climate and maintain high standards for student behavior and
conduct.
? Address student disciplinary and behavioral matters in a fair, consistent, and timely
manner.
? Work directly with students, parents, teachers, counselors, and support staff to resolve
student concerns.
? Assist with student attendance, tardiness, and related follow-up.
? Assist with the investigation, documentation, and reporting of student incidents as
required by district policy and applicable law.
? Support the school's implementation of harassment, intimidation, and bullying
requirements and procedures.
? Assist with the supervision and evaluation of teaching staff as assigned.
? Conduct formal and informal classroom observations and provide constructive feedback
to staff.
? Assist with staff meetings, professional development, and school improvement initiatives.
? Supervise extracurricular activities, assemblies, and school functions as assigned.
? Assist with the development and maintenance of academic and extracurricular
schedules.
? Support the coordination of transportation, cafeteria, custodial, and other school-based
serAssistants.
? Assist with emergency drills, safety procedures, and other activities designed to maintain
a safe school environment.
? Work collaboratively with staff and families to support the school's goals, programs, and
mission.
? Assist with curriculum, instructional technology, scheduling, planning, and special
programs as assigned.
? Attend Board of Education meetings and other meetings when requested.
? Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent of Schools.
Preferred Candidate
The district is looking for a leader who is visible, approachable, organized, consistent, and
comfortable working directly with students and staff. The successful candidate should
understand that an effective Assistant Principal is not simply responsible for student discipline,
but is an instructional and organizational leader who helps establish the culture of the building.
Candidates should demonstrate the ability to balance accountability with relationship-building
and be willing to become actively involved in all aspects of the school community.
Terms of Employment
Salary and work year will be determined by the Board of Education and will be consistent with
the interim nature of the appointment and applicable district policies and agreements.
