The Inventory Control Manager is responsible for overseeing and maintaining accurate inventory levels across 5โ€“7 Moon Valley Nurseries locations . This role ensures product accuracy, efficient stocking practices, and strong organizational controls to support sales, operations, and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate has experience managing high-SKU environments, excels in data accuracy, and is comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in a nursery environment.

Inventory Management & Controls

  • Oversee all inventory processes across assigned locations, ensuring accurate counts and proper stock rotation.
  • Conduct regular audits, cycle counts, and variance investigations for thousands of live-goods SKUs.
  • Develop and implement inventory control procedures to reduce shrink, loss, and mis-tagged product.
  • Maintain real-time data accuracy in inventory systems, ensuring counts and availability align with sales needs.
  • Identify aged, damaged, or non-saleable inventory and coordinate disposition or corrective action.

Location Support & Operational Oversight

  • Support 5โ€“7 retail nursery locations with proper stocking levels, tagging, barcode accuracy, and SKU placement.
  • Partner with Sales, General Managers, and Operations to forecast inventory needs and seasonal adjustments.
  • Coordinate transfers, internal shipments, and allocation of high-demand plant material.
  • Ensure best practices in product organization, spacing, and presentation to support sales readiness.

Process Improvement & Reporting

  • Analyze inventory trends and discrepancies to recommend systematic improvements.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly inventory accuracy reports for leadership.
  • Use data to optimize ordering, reduce waste, and improve inventory flow between locations.

Team Training & Leadership

  • Train location teams on inventory processes, tagging standards, and count accuracy.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and accountability for staff involved in inventory movement or control.
  • Ensure all locations follow standardized inventory protocols.
Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills & Abilitiesย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย 
  • 3โ€“5 years of experience in inventory control, supply chain, or operationsโ€”preferably in high-SKU retail, distribution, or nursery/landscape environments.
  • Maintaining accurate pricing for all nurseries along with the plant/tree merchandising (bench cards, Info tags etc)
  • Experience managing inventory across multiple locations strongly preferred.
  • Strong data accuracy, attention to detail, and comfort with high-volume SKU environments.
  • Proficient with inventory management systems, POS, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions; this role regularly walks nursery yards, inspects product, and performs physical counts.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to work cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, and Logistics teams.
  • Spanish bilingual ability is a strong plus.
  • Valid driverโ€™s license and ability to travel daily within the LA region.
