Job description

Dexter Québec Inc. is a construction company operating in the main sectors of heavy civil construction and mining services. We are currently seeking a Junior Cost Controller / Site Accounting and Cost Control Assistant to support our site operations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Collect, compile, and review supplier and subcontractor invoices, and reconcile them with purchase orders (POs), delivery slips, and applicable supporting documentation.

• Verify quantities, prices, and supporting documentation, and follow up on discrepancies between invoices, purchase orders, and goods or services received.

• Compile fuel consumption data for vehicles, equipment, generators, and other site activities, and maintain up-to-date fuel consumption tracking reports.

• Analyze fuel consumption by equipment, activity, department, or period, and identify unusual consumption trends or significant variances.

• Compile information on materials received, issued, transferred, and consumed on site, and maintain up-to-date material usage tracking reports.

• Compare actual material consumption with planned quantities, project requirements, or budgets, and report significant variances.

• Regularly maintain the site subcontractor and supplier list, including relevant contact information, contracts, purchase orders, and supporting documentation.

• Review and compile invoices related to camp operations, including accommodations, food ser-vices, maintenance, transportation, utilities, and other camp services.

• Assist with compiling and tracking site costs by supplier, subcontractor, activity, cost code, equip-ment, or other project category, as required.

• Extract equipment operating hours and labour hours from site reports and systems; compile, vali-date, and process the data to prepare clear summary tables, analyses, and reports for presentation to site management and the Finance department.

• Maintain cost-tracking spreadsheets and prepare weekly and monthly cost summaries, including variance and consumption analyses, for site management and the Finance department.

• Maintain accurate and well-organized records of invoices, purchase orders, delivery slips, fuel rec-ords, material logs, and other supporting documentation.

• Work closely with site management, Finance, Procurement, Logistics, Warehouse, Equipment, Maintenance, and Camp Management to gather information and resolve discrepancies.

• Assist with month-end reporting, reconciliations, audit requests, and other accounting, cost con-trol, and administrative duties, as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:

• College diploma or university degree in accounting, finance, business administration, construction management, or a related field.

• One to three years of experience in accounting, cost control, project administration, or construction administration is preferred.

• Previous experience in construction, mining, industrial operations, or remote-site operations is an asset.

• Basic understanding of accounting, procurement, invoicing, purchase orders, and cost control principles.

• Strong Microsoft Excel skills and the ability to compile, organize, and analyze operational and financial data.

• Experience with ERP, accounting, procurement, or project management systems is an asset.

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with excellent organizational and document management skills.

• Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify discrepancies, unusual trends, and cost variances.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with site per-sonnel, suppliers, subcontractors, and Finance teams.

• Bilingualism required: excellent command of French and English, both written and spoken, to communicate effectively with site personnel, suppliers, subcontractors, Dexter Québec teams, and other divisions.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet reporting deadlines, work independently, and perform effectively in a construction site environment.
