Job description

Manager, Data Analysis - Capital One Travel

At Capital One, data is at the center of everything we do. When we launched as a startup we disrupted the credit card industry by individually personalizing every credit card offer using statistical modeling and the relational database, cutting edge technology in 1988! Fast-forward a few years, and this little innovation and our passion for data has skyrocketed us to a Fortune 200 company and a leader in the world of data-driven decision-making.

We are looking for a Data Analyst to support the Hotels Travel Agency team at Capital One Travel. This analyst will be a true partner to the product and engineering teams in defining what we measure and why, closing tracking gaps, and translating the domain's complexity into clean, reliable data that the business can trust.

This role provides a pivotal opportunity for ownership over a large and complex data landscape that is key to our growing business. Data is at the core of everything we do and this team member will help shape the future of our product and our business. A key success metric for this role will be partnering with product and engineering to make hotels data accessible so that anyone in the rest of the business can produce accurate analyses without direct hotel team support.

What you'll do:

  • Partner with Product and Engineering to define KPIs and build dashboards to track progress against goals

  • Conduct ad hoc deep-dive analyses to drive decision-making and prioritization, ranging from examining specific customer behaviors to digging into complex technical questions to business impact analyses

  • Develop tracking plans and dashboards for measuring success of new product launches and monitoring A/B tests

  • Partner with Product to design clean A/B tests that can run in parallel

  • Troubleshoot issues in tracking and concerning data trends

  • Work closely with Engineering to develop a plan towards a more approachable data model

  • Maintain clean, usable data to answer complex business questions

On any given day you will be:

  • Mining data to arrive at specific and crucial information for the organization

  • Identifying and implementing process, data, and reporting improvements for the organization

  • Working with large and complex databases containing millions to billions of records

  • Improving operational efficiencies and effectiveness

  • Conducting analysis to evaluate processes and tests

  • Extracting and analyzing data to gauge product offerings

  • Consulting on the design and implementation of new production and data storage systems

  • Developing and implementing strategic tests of products, initiatives and marketing materials

An ideal candidate will/has:

  • Deliver Business Results. Answers questions and provides guidance towards producing positive business outcomes. Frames work within business goals and customer outcomes.

  • Context Seeking. Goes beyond pulling data by gaining an understanding of the business context to better answer questions and provide guidance.

  • Problem Solving. Drives toward solutions in a thoughtful and creative manner. Can navigate complex, multi-stakeholder environments and find the path forward.

  • Technical Acumen. Understands modern tech platforms and is credible with engineering partners with regards to data models and tracking. Has the data analysis skills (SQL, et al) to pull and transform raw data into an insight without underlying data quality issues.

  • Dealing with Ambiguity. Thrives with limited information. Takes initiative, frames problems with available context, and iterates toward clarity.

  • Customer First. Deeply understands what travelers need when searching for and booking hotels. Shows passion and care for the work and the people involved.

  • Teamwork. Excellent collaborator across product, engineering, design, and commercial teams. Puts the team before the individual and operates with a community mindset.

  • Simplicity. Finds elegant, simple solutions to complex business and organizational challenges. Resists over-engineering.

  • Communication. Clearly articulates priorities, strategies, and tradeoffs to key stakeholders-concise, direct, and actionable.

  • AI Fluency. Has direct, hands-on experience using AI-powered tools-specifically Claude Code, Gemini, or similar platforms -to rapidly dig into data and code repositories to find answers independently. Skeptical enough to challenge and QA AI results.

Basic Qualifications

  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a:

    • Bachelor's Degree in quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science or a related quantitative field) plus at least 6 years of experience performing data analytics, or
