The Position
Mining Engineer
Job Summary
The Mining Engineer is responsible for mine planning, scheduling, and development for Andersonville, GA and Eufaula, AL. The Mining Engineer will also manage mine capital cost planning, monitoring, and budgeting. They will manage mine permitting, ensuring sufficient timing for future mining areas. They will work with the Andersonville Mine Manager, the Eufaula Mine Superintendent, the Andersonville Plant Manager, and remote Corporate Mine and Resource Planning groups and personnel.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Develop and create mine plans, designs, and schedule for mine development and production.
  • Manage grade control modeling and monitor mine performance.
  • Coordinate with and monitor the stripping contractor on the opening of new mines.
  • Perform reclamation design, scheduling, and cost management for current mined out areas and future liabilities.
  • Monitor capital costs related to the mines and assist in annual budgeting.
  • Coordinate directly with Mine Manager EHS on mine related permits planning, and evaluations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Attributes Requirements:
  • Strong analytical skills to organize, interpret, and draw conclusions from data.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to all levels of mining personnel.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to inspect and report the development of mineral deposits and properties.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Strong ability to self-task.

Education/Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering, Geology or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of mining and/or technical support experience.
  • Mine planning experience, preferred
  • Understanding of resource geology and block modeling.
  • Proficiency in mining and geology geo-statistical software such as Leapfrog, Surpac, and/or Deswick. Proficiency in GIS software such as QGIS or ArcMap.
  • Experience in operating surface mines is a plus.
  • Knowledge of both MSHA regulations and NPDES is a plus.

Environment
  • Combination of office and field environment.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in an open pit mining environment with daily exposure to seasonal climate conditions.
  • Frequent exposure to dust, noise, and muddy, slippery surfaces.
  • Extensive walking on rough, uneven ground.
  • Must be able to travel - up to 10% traveling is estimated.
