CITY OF BELLEVUE JOB DESCRIPTION

Part-Time (Up to 25 hours per week Hourly Range $14.45 - $19.64)

POSITION TITLE: Minibus Driver

REPORTS TO: Human Services Manager

SUPERVISES: ------

PURPOSE OF POSITION: Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a minibus in the transportation of elderly, and/or physically, mentally and intellectually disabled individuals to and from designated locations. This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to drug and alcohol testing, including but not limited to random testing in accordance with the Federal Transit Administration and the Department of Transportation drug and alcohol regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Operates a minibus on a designated schedule; picks up clients on time and delivers them to their destination safely and within reasonable time frame; makes arrangements with clients for return pickup times and locations.

Collects daily fares, records monies collected and submits them to the appropriate designated personnel on a daily basis.

Performs pre-trip inspections of paratransit vehicle for mechanical and safety issues prior to beginning scheduled run to ensure proper operating condition of vehicle and on-board equipment.

Maintains various records to include, but not limited to, client usage sheets including client name, address and destination and vehicle check off lists including mileage and tire pressure.

Physically assists clients boarding and exiting the minibus or otherwise needing assistance, including operating the wheelchair lift and on-board restraints and securements, and ensuring the passenger is properly secured.

Performs general maintenance and upkeep on the minibus to include cleaning and sanitation of the interior of the bus as well as cleaning and maintenance of the outside to include washing and oil checks. Informs office personnel or fleet maintenance of any necessary repairs and maintenance needed on the bus to facilitate safe and efficient operation of the vehicle.

Attendance at the assigned work location is an essential function.

MARGIMAL FUNCTIONS:

Assists passengers with carrying purchases/equipment according to department policy.

Performs other duties as directed or as the situation dictates.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITY:

Ability to operate a minibus in a safe and efficient manner applying good defensive driving techniques throughout varied weather conditions.

Ability to follow a designated schedule of pickups and drop-offs in safe and timely fashion.

Knowledge of street locations in the Bellevue, Omaha and Papillion area, including alternate routes in the event of road construction or emergency.

Ability to effectively deal with elderly and disabled clients who may be physically and/ or intellectually disabled clients in a patient, tactful and courteous manner.

Ability to maintain complete and accurate records.

Ability to implement basic vehicle maintenance techniques.

Ability to physically assist clients on and off minibus, load and unload wheelchair passengers and to safely secure chairs to minibus.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSES:

Must possess a valid motor vehicle operators' license at the time of hire and maintain throughout the course of employment.

Before placing a person in this position, successful completion of a background check, physical capacity test and drug screening is required.

The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work duties are generally performed while seated inside a minibus for extended periods of time, however incumbents are required to have the ability to enter and exit a minibus and execute repetitive hand, wrist, shoulder, arm and leg movements to operate and perform maintenance duties on a minibus. Work duties also require the ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force frequently and exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally.

Work hours may occasionally be required in times of darkness. Noise level is usually moderate. Vision abilities include the ability to adjust focus. Communication abilities include the ability to talk and hear within normal ranges.

Work may be stressful due to driving in traffic, working within specific time frames and a great deal of interaction with the general public.
