Chemours is seeking a Plant Operator to join our growing Mission Mining team! This position will report directly to the Shift Supervisor in our Nahunta, GA location.

The Plant Operator oversees the operational function for mining and mineral processing facilities operating 24-hours per day, 7-days per week to ensure peak plant performance. Through computer interface, regular inspections, and light maintenance, the Plant Operator will monitor and maintain operating conditions of mobile mining units, screeners, wetmill concentrator, attritioner, water treatment facilities, and associated process equipment. Sampling results, meter readings, changes in operating conditions or trends will be communicated to team members regarding any functional criteria that must change for the concentrator to run as safely and efficiently as possible. Also works with maintenance personnel in maintaining the plant and oversees the activities of other Plant Operators as required.

Daily Activities:

  • Ensure all work is performed within company, state, and federal regulations, standards, statutes, policies, and procedures.

  • Identify and promote opportunities to improve mine safety performance, act as a safety leader.

  • Ensure Plant is operating within production criteria as defined by Standard Operating Procedures. Record accurate product, process and safety data, monitors Plant process and maintains plant performance as required/assigned by Mine Manager, Shift Supervisor, and Maintenance Coordinator.

  • Use troubleshooting skills to resolve process related deviations and problems and maintain equipment reliability.

  • Use process knowledge and skills to make improvements in plant performance and Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Optimize plant performance by monitoring process equipment and conditions using information systems including; process levels, temperatures, pressures, and flow rates.

  • Perform process equipment troubleshooting, minor repairs, improvements, and preventative maintenance, utilizing appropriate processes and disciplines.

  • Cleans and maintains spirals, sumps, distributors, etc. to maintain overall Plant performance.

Goals for the role:

  • Act as a Safety Leader to ensure individual and team Safety remain top priority in the planning and execution of all tasks.

  • Work closely with Company Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) personnel targeting zero incidents and continuous improvement of mine site EHS performance.

  • Continuous improvement in plant operations approach, encourage initiatives intended to reduce safety risk, increase productivity and efficiency.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Work in a self-guided manner in the absence of supervision and demonstrate creativity, exercise sound judgment, and demonstrate initiative.

  • Report all personal injuries and EHS incidents and assist with both safety and environmental investigations.

  • Ensure a high standard of housekeeping is maintained in all assigned areas.

  • Ensure operational activities and process performance are aligned with plant and business goals.

  • Performs other duties as required/assigned by Mining Superintendent, Shift Supervisor, and Engineering & Maintenance Superintendent.

  • Support overall mining and mineral processing needs to include providing supplemental labor to operations and maintenance personal to meet mine goals.

The following is required for this role:

  • Ability to read and write the English language.

  • Valid Drivers' License with clean driving record.

  • Ability to read and comprehend detailed specifications, including computer graphical user interface and basic math ability, mechanical aptitude.

  • Ability to work with a team, possess good people skills.

  • Previous processing plant experience preferred but not required.

The following is physical requirement for this role:

  • Must be able to work 12-hour rotating shifts.

  • Regularly required to use hands, fingers, and feet in a coordinated effort to move levers and turn dials to safely operate and maintain plant equipment.

  • Specific vision abilities required, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Frequently ascends or descends ladders, stairs, elevated walkways, ramps and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.

  • Perform heavy manual labor when needed such as moving equipment and supplies around the Plant area in different weather conditions, shoveling sand.

  • Must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods (4-6 hours)

  • Frequently lifts or moves up to 25 pounds and occasionally lifts or moves up to 50 pounds.

  • Position requires working near and around operating mechanical parts and mobile equipment and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibrations.

  • Capable of wearing personal protective equipment, such as hearing protectors and respirators, as necessary.
