JOB LOCATION: Skyline Mine

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Plans, directs, and monitors all mine safety, health, and regulatory compliance activities for the underground mine, surface facilities, and rail loadout. Administers and oversees compliance with all applicable MSHA, state, and company safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Leads the mine's safety and health management systems to promote an injury-free workplace and a strong safety culture.
  • Conducts regular underground and surface inspections, audits, and observations to identify hazards, ensure compliance, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Coordinates accident, incident, and near miss investigations and develops corrective action plans to prevent recurrence.
  • Provides leadership and coordination during safety incidents and emergencies, including responding to incident notifications, directing initial response efforts, coordinating investigations, communicating with management and regulatory agencies as necessary, and ensuring appropriate corrective actions are implemented. Maintains availability to respond to safety-related incidents and operational needs on a 24/7 basis.
  • Maintains all required MSHA records, reports, training documentation, and compliance records.
  • Develops, schedules, and conducts new miner, annual refresher, task, contractor, and regulatory training programs.
  • Acts as the primary liaison with MSHA inspectors and regulatory agencies during inspections, investigations, and compliance activities.
  • Provides guidance and support to mine management, supervisors, and employees regarding safety standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitors and evaluates mine safety performance metrics and develops programs to continuously improve safety results.
  • Coordinates emergency preparedness activities, mine rescue support, evacuation drills, and emergency response planning.
  • Reviews proposed operational changes, equipment modifications, and projects to ensure safety and regulatory compliance requirements are met.
  • Develops and implements policies, procedures, and programs that support safe and efficient mining operations.
  • Conducts safety meetings and promotes employee engagement in safety initiatives throughout the operation.
  • Collaborates with mine management to establish safety goals, priorities, and performance standards.

PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrated successful safety leadership experience in underground coal mining.
  • Minimum of ten years of coal mining experience, with significant experience in underground mining operations.
  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, Mining Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or equivalent work experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of MSHA regulations, underground coal mining practices, and safety management systems.
  • Current Utah Mine Foreman Certification preferred.
  • MSHA Approved Instructor Certification preferred.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analysis, and safety audits.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and safety management software are preferred.
