Job description

Job Summary
We are seeking a senior accountant at our central mining office near Brookwood, Alabama. We expect this person to be a role model for the "Warrior Way" and uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and teamwork.

Mining positions may be required to work various shifts, rotating schedules, weekends, and holidays as scheduled. About the Role:
As a senior accountant, you would be responsible for managing financial records, reporting, budgeting, cost analysis, and accounting functions related to coal mining operations. This role supports operational management by ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and analysis of production and operational costs. The accountant works closely with mine management, sales and marketing team, purchasing, and corporate finance teams to monitor financial performance and support strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation of the month end close process, including journal entries and allocations, variance analysis, and balance sheet account reconciliations. Also, assist in the recording of mine costs and supplemental mine cost schedules.
  • Responsible for the accounting of company-wide trade receivables/revenue transactions.
  • Responsible for maintaining a high level of communication between the company and its customers.
  • Responsible for assisting with the preparation of cash forecast updates in accordance with the treasury team.
  • Act as the accounting liaison between the sales and finance teams.
  • Assist in the review and implementation of sales contracts alongside the sales team.
  • Responsible for recording, maintaining, and reporting on coal inventory values.
  • Assist with the annual financial statement audit and other requests from internal and external auditors.
  • Responsible for maintaining detailed supporting documentation as required by internal Sarbanes-Oxley compliance guidelines.
  • Communicate with co-workers, management, and others in a courteous and professional manner.

Who You are:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience in mining, construction, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environments is preferred.
  • Knowledge of cost accounting and operational accounting practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software systems.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential financial information.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Full platform Workday ERP system experience a plus.

Environment and Safety
  • Ensure adherence to State, Federal and Company workplace policies and standard work procedures for risk identification, risk assessment and risk control.
  • Maintain a high level of Safety performance through effective communication, monitoring, and revision of standard work procedures.
  • Identify and report safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries, and property damage at the workplace.
  • Attend and participate in all scheduled safety meetings and training.
  • Ensure adherence to environmental policy, work standards, management plans and regulatory obligations and requirements.
