Technical Support Specialist

About the position

To be considered for this position applicants must have 2-3 years of technical support experience, excellent interpersonal skills (communication is key!), and the ability to set and manage multiple priorities. You must be comfortable troubleshooting complex issues with customers over the phone and in person. You must be able clearly and effectively communicate technical solutions to both technical and non-technical customers. Must be highly motivated, have an excellent work ethic and must be able to follow-up and follow through on technical implementations or solutions.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and assistance for DigiLink's customers for their various Internet, network and telecommunications related services including the registration and management of internet domains, mail services, web services and other Internet technologies and services. Logically solve problems and make decisions to maximize customer satisfaction while simultaneously protecting and maximizing the company’s interests. Identify when escalation is called for, and diligently pursue as appropriate.
  • Configure and install wireless equipment, routers, firewalls, VoIP equipment and various Internet related systems, applications and services at our customer's locations.
  • Assist in the support DigiLink's VoIP services.
  • Assist in configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of multiple Unix based serversincluding DNS, Email, Web and other Internet services provided by those systems.
  • Provide on-call support beyond normal business hours on a scheduled basis or if warranted by a particular situation on an emergency basis.
  • Carry a cell phone as often as possible both during and outside normal business hours whether or not scheduled for on-call support.

Preferred skills

  • Knowledge of LAN, WAN and Wireless Technologies (DS-1, DS-3, OC-3, OC-12, ATM, Ethernet, 802.1q, 802.11(x).
  • Knowledge and experience with IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, subnetworks and routing methods and protocols.
  • Experience with Cisco and Mikrotik routers.
  • Experience configuring Ubiquiti and Mikrotik wireless equipment is essential.
  • Experience with Linux or other Unix systems is a plus!
  • Experience with any VoIP software and/or hardware is a plus!
    • Asterisk, SER, OpenSER, OpenPBX, etc.
    • Cisco, Polycom, Snom, Uniden, Hitachi IP phones
  • Knowledge of the implementation and operation of router and switch IP networks on Cisco platforms is a plus
  • Familiarity with BGP, Multi-homing, OSPF is aplus
  • Experience configuring VPNs using Cisco IOS is a plus
  • BSCE or equivalent would be a plus.

This position entails providing our business class customers with excellent and reliable services. Responsibilities include management, troubleshooting, and maintenance of our servers and network services.

DigiLink has been delivering leading-edge business Internet solutions and services since 1994, providing Voice over IP (VoIP) services since 2004. We are rapidly expanding our Wireless and VoIP technologies and this is an excellent opportunity to be involved with some very experienced engineering professionals on the leading edge of a very exciting and demanding technology.

About the position

Responsibilities include:

  • Administer virtual web hosts and email services on our Unix systems
  • Manage our DNS servers, domain registrations
  • Maintain our backup systems and ensure that backups are successfully completed
  • Assist in maintaining DigiLink's WAN consisting of Wireless (Canopy, Ubiquiti and Mikrotik), Fiber, T3, T1, DSL, Frame Relay technologies.
  • Configure and install routers (Cisco, Mikrotik, Linksys, etc.) at customer's locations
  • Evaluate, provision, install and support VoIP equipment and services.
  • Manage, provision and deploy wireless network technologies.
  • Assist with our 24x7 support as part of a rotating on-call schedule

Requirements

  • 2-3 years of hands on systems administration in Linux or Unix (Solaris preferred) environment.
  • Direct experience with Linux/Intel and Sun Solaris SPARC/AMD systems is highly desired.
  • Large multi-terabyte storage and backup systems. SCSI and Fiber channel hardware
  • Server protection and security. Tripwire and tcp wrappers, etc.
  • Monitoring of critical server functions
  • Proactive server management
  • Automated redundancy and failover
  • Administering and troubleshooting email servers (SMTP) and services (IMAP & POP).
  • Knowledge of email server software and routing:
  • Sendmail, Postfix, imapd, popd
  • SpamAssassin, MIMEDefang and other related software
  • Experience managing DNS servers (BIND preferred).
  • Maintaining and configuring LAMP and SAMP Environment (Linux/Solaris, Apache, MySQL, PHP)
  • Full comprehension and understanding of related Internet protocols and services including: TCP/IP, FTP, SMTP, POP, IMAP and SSL.
  • Operation of test tools such as Sniffer, tcpdump, snort, Ethereal analyzers highly desirable.
  • Solid analysis, troubleshooting, and engineering skills required.
  • Ability to rack, stack and cable equipment to best practice standards.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills required. Complete documentation of all network and security incidents is essential.

Preferred skills

  • BSCE or equivalent is preferred.
  • VOIP experience using SIP is a plus
  • Experience with any VoIP software and/or hardware is a plus!
