Superior Skilled Trades is seeking Journey Millwrights for an immediate start in Tacoma, WA!

  • PAY:ย $32-$38/hour (based on experience)
  • PER DIEM:ย Hotel provided + $45/day for meals on overnight shutdowns
  • HOURS:ย 40-70 hours/week (shutdown schedules may include 7-, 10-, or 12-hour shifts)
  • SCHEDULE:ย Monday-Friday; shop hours are 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM with overtime as needed
  • START DATE:ย 08/10/2026
  • DURATION:ย Approximately 3 months

Journey Millwright Job Description:

Superior Skilled Trades is seeking experiencedย Journey Millwrightsย to work primarily out of a Tacoma shop while traveling as needed to support scheduled paper mill shutdowns throughout the region. This position involves industrial mechanical maintenance, precision equipment installation, troubleshooting, and repair of production equipment in paper mills. Candidates must be comfortable working both in the shop and in field environments during shutdowns where extended work hours are common.

Responsibilities:

  • Disassemble, inspect, repair, and reassemble industrial equipment including pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, rollers, agitators, and rotating equipment
  • Perform precision shaft and motor alignments using laser alignment systems and dial indicators
  • Remove and replace bearings, seals, couplings, belts, chains, shafts, and other mechanical components
  • Install new machinery and mechanical equipment according to specifications
  • Safely operate rigging equipment, chain falls, hoists, cranes, and forklifts to move heavy machinery
  • Troubleshoot mechanical failures and perform corrective repairs
  • Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, work orders, and equipment manuals
  • Assist with welding, cutting, and fabrication as needed
  • Follow all Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space, hot work, and fall protection procedures
  • Work closely with maintenance crews, electricians, welders, and supervisors to complete shutdowns safely and on schedule
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas and accurate maintenance documentation

Qualifications for Journey Millwright:

  • 5+ years of industrial millwright experience preferred
  • Previous paper mill shutdown experience strongly preferred
  • Experience performing precision laser and dial indicator alignments
  • Strong background in industrial mechanical maintenance and rotating equipment
  • Experience replacing bearings, seals, couplings, gearboxes, pumps, and conveyors
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Experience with rigging, hoisting, and moving heavy industrial equipment
  • Ability to read blueprints and mechanical drawings
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and LOTO procedures
  • Must be able to safely operate hand and power tools
  • Must be willing to travel for shutdown work as required

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent standing, bending, twisting, kneeling, climbing, and lifting
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in hot and cold weather conditions
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must be willing to travel for shutdown projects
  • Overnight travel includes hotel accommodations provided by the client plusย $45/day meal per diem
  • Employees may ride in company vehicles for out-of-town shutdowns. Those choosing to drive personal vehicles will not receive mileage reimbursement.
