Job description

Hammer & Die Repair Person
PRIMARY DUTIES include, but not limited to:
The Hammer & Die Repairperson will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of the mill by repairing and preparing forging hammers, press dies, and other wearable components for use in Carpenter's forging equipment. They will provide expertise using welding/cutting, heat treating, milling, and grinding equipment, and are required to inspect, test, calibrate, repair, install, fabricate, construct, adjust, lubricate, maintain, dismantle and clean all hammers and dies, and work in conjunction with other maintenance crafts.
  • Operate MIG welder and Carbon/Air Arc.
  • Operate various grinders, milling machines, welders and pneumatic tools.
  • Utilize hand tools to assemble components.
  • Repairs, rebuilds, cleans and assembles mechanical spare parts.
  • Work with overhead cranes and hoists to move and install large machinery parts.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Fabricate parts as necessary using welders, torches, grinders, and cutting equipment.
  • Collaborate with electricians, engineers, and other maintenance staff to troubleshoot and optimize equipment performance.
  • Document work performed and maintain accurate maintenance logs, and reports using CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety, health, and environmental regulations.
  • Observe safety rules and regulations and motivate others to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Responsible for coordinating safety and housekeeping of jobsites and shop areas.
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as directed by management.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • 2 years welding and machining experience.
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school certification preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and industrial machinery.
  • Welding and metal fabrication experience required.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and schematics.
  • Familiarity with lockout/tagout and other OSHA safety standards.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
