IT Analyst - Developer

Position Summary

Design, develop, enhance, and support business applications and integrations that enable manufacturing and engineering operations. As a Level II Developer, this role delivers small to medium complexity software solutions while ensuring application reliability, maintainability, security, and performance. Working closely with stakeholders, product owners, site support teams, and other IT functions, the role translates business requirements into scalable technical solutions that drive operational effectiveness.

The position independently manages assigned development work through deployment and production support, contributes to application modernization initiatives, participates in DevOps and release management activities, and helps improve development standards through mentoring and knowledge sharing. Success in this role is measured through high-quality software delivery, stable production systems, effective collaboration, and continuous improvement of development practices.

Core Functions

Application Development & Enhancement

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy application features and bug fixes using C#/.NET technologies, SQL Server, and IIS-hosted applications.
  • Deliver small to medium complexity enhancements from requirements gathering through production deployment.
  • Ensure acceptance criteria are clearly defined and solutions include appropriate unit and integration testing.
  • Refactor existing applications to improve maintainability, performance, scalability, and code quality.

Software Delivery & Project Execution

  • Own assigned backlog items through the full development lifecycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, and post-release support.
  • Participate in sprint planning, backlog grooming, effort estimation, demonstrations, and retrospectives.
  • Document technical decisions, system impacts, and implementation details to support long-term maintainability.
  • Coordinate deployment activities while adhering to change management and release control processes.

Production Support & Problem Resolution

  • Monitor application health and diagnose production issues using logs, metrics, and troubleshooting tools.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce recurring issues.
  • Collaborate with site support teams and business users to ensure effective issue resolution and knowledge transfer.
  • Support application reliability initiatives and reduce mean time to resolution for supported systems.

Development Operations & Quality Assurance

  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and environment management activities.
  • Maintain deployment standards, release notes, rollback procedures, and configuration consistency across environments.
  • Participate in code reviews and enforce secure coding, testing, and documentation standards.
  • Improve application quality through expanded test coverage and adherence to development best practices.

Technical Design & Architecture Support

  • Participate in technical design discussions and solution reviews.
  • Evaluate development approaches with consideration for security, performance, maintainability, and scalability.
  • Support modernization efforts, including migration of legacy applications and tools to contemporary development platforms.
  • Apply industry-standard development patterns and architecture principles.

Documentation, Knowledge Sharing & Mentoring

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, developer runbooks, API specifications, database diagrams, and user guides.
  • Establish clear documentation standards that support supportability and knowledge retention.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to Level I developers regarding coding practices, testing expectations, documentation quality, and repository management.
  • Promote development discipline through peer reviews, knowledge sharing sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with business stakeholders, product owners, quality assurance personnel, site support teams, and senior developers to deliver business-focused solutions.
  • Communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Contribute to team retrospectives and recommend practical improvements to development processes and standards.
  • Support cross-functional initiatives involving infrastructure, security, manufacturing systems, and data teams.

This role requires a hands on technical leader with a strong business mindset, capable of owning outcomes, managing initiatives, influencing decisions, and driving change across multiple sites.

General Qualifications & Experience

Education & Experience

  • Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field with a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience, or
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field with two (2) to four (4) years of relevant experience.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, industrial, or distribution environments preferred.

Technical Knowledge

  • Strong proficiency in C#/.NET development, including ASP.NET MVC and/or .NET Core.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, T-SQL development, database design, indexing, and reporting technologies.
  • Working knowledge of IIS web hosting and application deployment.
  • Familiarity with Git-based source control, code review processes, and modern software development workflows.
  • Experience with unit testing, integration testing, and software quality practices.
  • Knowledge of secure coding principles, input validation, authentication, authorization, and performance optimization techniques.
  • Familiarity with application monitoring, logging, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis methodologies.

Preferred Technical Exposure

  • Experience modernizing legacy applications and business tools.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing systems, engineering applications, or shop-floor data collection environments.
  • Exposure to API development, application integrations, and service-oriented architectures.
  • Understanding of software performance monitoring and application reliability practices.

Professional Competencies

  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting delivery commitments.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to code quality.
