Job description

Reports to Manager - The Sword and Trowel and the Tomlinson Cafe
Department Auxiliary Services - Institutional Administration
FLSA Status Hourly, Non-Exempt
JOB PURPOSE
To create a sense of welcome and hospitality in the Sword and Trowel Bookstore while providing excellent customer service for all customer needs and purchases
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assist in the receiving and stocking or preparing of all incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Be competent in all aspects of the Square POS system and the related equipment including cash registers and personal computer and printer applications.
  • Be competent in categories of books and Bible translations.
  • Responsible for opening and/or closing the bookstore.
  • Assist with merchandise inventories and data input of all inventories.
  • Input data electronically to be used for the ordering of books or merchandise.
  • Assist in the display of books or merchandise in store.
  • Account for the monies collected from business transactions including balancing receipts and preparing cash deposits.
  • Keep clothing and merchandise on shelves neat and make sure bookshelves are stocked and books are straightened daily.
  • Greet visitors in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Maintain order of front desk area daily.
  • Provide excellent customer service for all customer needs and purchases.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
Including, however not limited to:
  • Christian with high integrity, actively pursuing a relationship with God
  • High school diploma, or equivalent
  • Retail or customer service experience, preferred
  • Knowledgeable in cash handling principles and practices
  • Able to use computer equipment, systems and software used in retail operations
  • Able to multi-task, analyze workload, and prioritize as necessary for the benefit of the department
  • Able to take the initiative to complete the duties of the position without the need of direct supervision.
  • Able to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency.
  • Must be able to work independently, as well as a part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Must possess a positive attitude
  • Able to show a desire and willingness to learn
  • Must be able to pass background screening, including driving record
  • Eligible to work in the United States

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • No more than twenty-nine (29) hours per week

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Continually required to stand, walk, sit, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects, tools or controls.
  • Move materials weighing 10-20 pounds frequently, 25-35 pounds occasionally.
  • Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, mouse, calculator, and similar machines.
