Job description

Established in 1983, WilkinGuttenplan is a leading mid-sized accounting and advisory firm in New Jersey and New York City. The Firm serves a multitude of industries, including closely held and middle-market businesses and their owners, high-net worth individuals, real estate, healthcare, international commerce, sports and entertainment, professional practices, technology, non-profit, condominiums and cooperatives, and many more. Areas of expertise include tax, auditing, compilations, reviews, financial statement preparation, business valuations and trust & estate solutions. WilkinGuttenplan is an independent member of the BDO Alliance USA. At WilkinGuttenplan, we strive to ensure we foster an inclusive and flexible environment for all our employees while also assisting them in achieving their unique career goals through our coaching program.

WilkinGuttenplan is looking for an experienced systems and infrastructure engineer to take ownership of the environment our firm and our clients run on. This is a hands‑on leadership role. You will own the design, performance, and reliability of our infrastructure, help set the technical direction for infrastructure projects, and serve as the final escalation point for our support team. You will work with an IT team that serves internal users and delivers managed IT operations to external clients. The environment is Microsoft-centered and virtualized, with an active internal software development group.

Responsibilities:
  • Own the availability, performance, capacity, and lifecycle of the firm’s infrastructure, including virtualization, storage, network, identity, and cloud applications.
  • Help set technical direction for infrastructure projects, from design through execution, including vendor and product evaluation, cost input, and implementation planning.
  • Serve as the final escalation point for complex technical issues across internal and client environments.
  • Lead, develop, and hold accountable the team for infrastructure projects and related support, including direct supervision of a system administrator.
  • Own the operational security posture in partnership with IT leadership, including hardening standards, patch and vulnerability remediation, and incident response.
  • Own backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity for infrastructure, including testing and documented recovery objectives.
  • Build and maintain automation to eliminate recurring manual work.
  • Partner with the software development team to support CI/CD pipelines, containerized environments, and application infrastructure.
  • Establish and maintain infrastructure documentation, standards, and runbooks as an ongoing discipline rather than a project deliverable.
  • Support managed services delivery for external clients, including infrastructure design and escalation support.
  • 8+ years of professional experience in IT infrastructure, systems administration, or systems engineering.
  • Deep expertise with Windows Server and Windows desktop operating systems, Active Directory, and Entra ID.
  • Hands‑on experience with Hyper‑V, including clustering, storage, and virtual network design.
  • Strong networking capability, including firewall configuration, VLANs, routing, VPN, and troubleshooting.
  • Microsoft 365 administration, including Exchange Online, Teams, Intune, and Conditional Access.
  • Backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity design and testing.
  • Monitoring, alerting, and capacity planning across servers, network, and applications.
  • Windows and Linux scripting and automation.
  • Working knowledge of database administration, with the ability to keep database platforms healthy and performing.
  • Comfortable with CI/CD tooling and containerization technologies.
  • A combination of a bachelor’s degree, relevant IT experience, and/or recognized IT certifications.
How You Work:
  • You are comfortable being accountable for outcomes you did not personally execute.
  • You have supervised, mentored, or developed technical staff, or you are clearly ready to.
  • You give direct feedback and hold a standard, including when it is uncomfortable.
  • You bring in help when a problem exceeds your expertise without handing off ownership of the outcome.
  • You stay calm and effective under pressure, including during outages and security incidents.
  • You document as you go, and you expect the same from the people you lead.
Why us?
  • We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, including Unlimited PTO, Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k), and much more! For more information on our offerings please visit our website.
  • Our collaborative work environment is strongly committed to your professional growth and success
  • We have an extensive Coaching Program to help you maximize your career.
  • We have a track record of ranking in the Best Place to Work NJ for the past twenty-one years and have won several other awards including, Best Accounting Firms To Work For, and many more!
  • The estimated salary for this position is $110,000 - $140,000. Individual salaries are determined through multiple factors permitted by law including but not limited to experience, education, licensure/certification, knowledge, skills and qualifications. WG also offers a comprehensive benefits package and performance award (bonus) eligibility whereyou’llbe recognized and rewarded based on your performance.
