Job description

Maintenance Mechanic – MRF/Compost OperationsAbout the Role

Mid Valley Disposal is looking for a hands-on, safety-driven Maintenance Mechanic to support our Material Recovery Facility (MRF) and Compost operations. This role is essential to keeping our equipment, systems, and facilities operating safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime.

If you’re mechanically inclined, enjoy troubleshooting, and take pride in keeping industrial equipment running strong, this is a solid opportunity to join a stable operation with meaningful, long-term work.

This position reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor, MRF/Compost Operations.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems

  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment including conveyors, grinders, balers, compactors, and related machinery

  • Respond to urgent repair needs and support emergency maintenance situations

  • Complete daily work orders and accurately document maintenance activities

  • Follow all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures

  • Assist with equipment installations, upgrades, and modifications

  • Maintain tools, parts, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition

  • Support facility maintenance such as lighting, plumbing, and minor building repairs

  • Communicate equipment issues and parts needs to the Maintenance Supervisor

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support plant operations

What We’re Looking ForRequired
  • High School Diploma or GED

  • 2+ years of maintenance experience in an industrial, manufacturing, recycling, compost, or waste management environment

  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems

  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics

  • Strong commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and reliability

  • Familiarity with OSHA and general industrial safety standards

  • Comfortable using computers, Microsoft Office, and maintenance management systems

Preferred
  • Technical certification or formal training in mechanical or electrical systems

  • Experience working in MRF, compost, recycling, or heavy industrial environments

  • Bilingual in Spanish
