ASE is looking for an Interior Communications SOVT Technical Writer to work in Suffolk, VA. To join our team of outstanding professionals, apply today!
Akima Systems Engineering Technical Writers perform System Operational Verification Testing (SOVT) development and submission of NAVWAR compliant SOVTs for shipboard and shoreside installations of NIWC Interior Communication systems for the following Combat Systems:
  • Integrated Voice Network
  • Shipboard Air Traffic Control Communications System
  • General Announcing
  • Hierarchical Yet Dynamically Reprogrammable Architecture
  • Shipwide Interior Wireless Communications System

Technical Writers perform the development of SPEG 2.2 System Operational Verification Test (SOVT) Preparation and Execution Guide (SPEG) compliant SOVTs as required for each system variant. System SOVTs are developed following SPEG requirements, identifying minimum test elements, special test elements, and written following the required format and structure of the current SPEG.
Responsibilities
  • Researches, writes, edits and proofreads technical data for use in documents or sections of documents such as manuals, procedures and specifications.
  • Ensures technical documentation is accurate, complete, meets editorial and government specifications and adheres to standards for quality, graphics, coverage, format and style.
  • Assists in establishing style guidelines and standards for texts and illustrations.
  • Retrieves, organizes, analyzes and synthesizes subject matter and transforms it into easy-to-understand information.
  • Creates or revises hardware or software product documentation, which includes installation, operation and maintenance instructions and other technical publications such as technical advisories and release notes.
  • Performs work under direct supervision.
  • Handles basic issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.
  • Typically requires BA and 0-2 years.

Qualifications
  • Able to Obtain Secret Clearance.
  • Ability to write test plans, SOVT's effectively.
  • Essential knowledge and experience proofreading/editing, that includes grammar skills.
  • Experience in documentation/word processing systems (e.g., Modern Digital Tactical Software for Testing (MDTST) and Microsoft Word.
  • Experience creating or manipulating graphic files (Microsoft Visio).
  • Ability to apply knowledge of cybersecurity concepts, policies, and procedures is a plus.
  • Familiar with Controlled Unclassified Information (e.g., requirements, handling and creation).
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, illustration, specifications, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Understanding of military documentation doctrine such as MIL-STD-9090.310 (Alterations to Ships accomplished by Alteration Installation Teams Technical Specification) and DoD Installation directives.
