What are some common challenges faced by mid-level remote software developers, and how can they be addressed?

Mid-level remote software developers often encounter challenges such as maintaining effective communication with distributed teams, managing their time independently, and staying aligned with project goals without in-person supervision. To address these, it's important to proactively participate in virtual meetings, use collaboration tools like Slack or Jira, and set clear daily or weekly work objectives. Regular check-ins with team members and seeking feedback can also help ensure that you remain connected and productive, fostering both personal growth and project success.

What is a Mid Level Remote Software Developer?

A Mid Level Remote Software Developer is a software engineer with several years of experience (typically 2-5 years) who works from a location outside of a traditional office environment, often from home. They are responsible for designing, coding, testing, and maintaining software applications, collaborating with team members through digital communication tools. Mid level developers are expected to work independently on moderately complex tasks, contribute to code reviews, and assist junior developers. Remote roles require strong time management and communication skills to ensure productivity and effective teamwork.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Mid Level Remote Software Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Mid Level Remote Software Developer, you need proficiency in programming languages (such as JavaScript, Python, or Java), experience with software development methodologies, and a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, cloud platforms (e.g., AWS or Azure), and collaborative tools such as Jira or Slack is typically expected. Strong problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and effective written communication help you excel, especially in a remote environment. These skills and qualities are essential for delivering high-quality software, collaborating efficiently with distributed teams, and adapting to evolving project requirements.

Founding Forward Deployed Engineer

Job description

Forward Deployed Engineer (AI Agent Deployments)

Level: New Grad to Mid-Level
Location: New York City + Travel (primarily domestic, ~30โ€“50%)

About Our Client

Our client builds autonomous AI agents that automate real operational workflows in home-based care. They work directly inside the systems teams already use (including EMR environments), deploying agents that reduce manual coordination and unlock measurable business outcomes quickly.

The Role

Our client is hiring a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE)โ€”a high-impact, customer-facing engineering role. You'll show up at a customer site, learn how their operation works fast, deploy an AI agent that transforms the workflow, and then come back and ship the product improvements you discovered in the field.

Every enterprise deployment starts with an FDE. You're the reason customers move from a pilot to a six-figure rollout.

What You'll Do

  • Travel to customer sites and deploy AI agents end-to-endโ€”from integration to go-live
  • Build browser-based automations against EMR systems (including cases with limited or no public APIs)
  • Shadow schedulers, intake coordinators, and office staff to map real workflows and constraints
  • Translate field observations into product improvements and ship quickly (high-velocity execution is expected)
  • Present results to customer leadership and support expansion conversations post-pilot
  • Own the full deployment stack: data extraction, agent configuration, QA, monitoring, and frontline support

What Our Client Is Looking For

  • Strong software engineering fundamentalsโ€”you can build and ship production systems
  • Comfort with ambiguityโ€”you'll often be the only engineer onsite figuring things out in real time
  • Bias toward actionโ€”you'd rather ship a useful solution today than a perfect one next month
  • Willingness to travel (~30โ€“50% domestic travel)
  • Genuine curiosity about operations and healthcare workflowsโ€”you like learning how work actually gets done
  • Strong communication skillsโ€”you can explain technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders and drive alignment

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with browser automation, scraping, or reverse-engineering web applications
  • Familiarity with workflow automation, integrations, or customer-facing engineering roles (FDE, Solutions Engineer, Sales Engineer, Implementation Engineer)
  • Exposure to healthcare operations, scheduling systems, or EMR-style environments

Why This Role

  • High ownership + real-world impactโ€”your work directly determines customer success
  • Fast feedback loops: deploy โ†’ measure โ†’ improve โ†’ ship
  • Unique blend of engineering + field work + product intuition
  • Strong growth trajectory for engineers who want to become technical leads, product-minded builders, or future founders
