Job description

INTERIOR DESIGNER
Location: Vancouver, BC
Position: Full-Time | Permanent | In-Office
Compensation: $75,000 - $80,000+ base salary with commission opportunity
Own Your Projects. Shape Commercial Spaces. Join a Thriving Team.
ABOUT OUR CLIENT
We are partnering with a longstanding and well-regarded design-build firm that has been delivering Commercial Workplace TI projects throughout Metro Vancouver for many years. With new project wins and an expanding portfolio, they are seeking to immediately bring on a mid-level, workplace-focused Interior Designer who is ready to take ownership of projects and become an integral part of a close-knit team.
Unlike traditional design firms, our Client offers a unique opportunity to work within a fully integrated design-build environment where design decisions translate directly into construction. You'll collaborate closely with clients, leadership, and project managers, while enjoying the autonomy to manage projects from concept through completion.
This role is ideal for someone who wants more responsibility, enjoys client interaction, and is looking for an environment where they can directly impact their direction of their career long-term with opportunities to share in the firm's financial success.
ABOUT THE ROLE
You'll become the primary Interior Designer within a collaborative team, working alongside experienced industry professionals and leadership, who provide support while giving you the freedom to manage your own work. You'll lead multiple commercial projects simultaneously, developing practical, creative design solutions while coordinating directly with clients, landlords, consultants, and construction teams.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Lead commercial interior projects from initial programming through construction completion
  • Develop creative space planning solutions and finish selections that balance aesthetics, functionality, and budget
  • Produce detailed AutoCAD and SketchUp drawing packages, including permit, tender, construction, and as-built drawings
  • Prepare building permit applications and coordinate municipal approvals
  • Navigate landlord approval processes and ensure compliance with construction guidelines
  • Apply strong knowledge of the BC Building Code throughout the design process
  • Coordinate with project managers, consultants, contractors, and trades to deliver successful projects
  • Attend client meetings, project site visits, and construction meetings
  • Build lasting relationships with clients while confidently presenting design solutions
  • Manage multiple projects while maintaining exceptional quality and attention to detail
WHAT YOU BRING
  • Approx. 5+ years of commercial interior design experience
  • A Diploma or Degree in Interior Design
  • Experience managing commercial projects with increasing independence
  • Strong knowledge of the BC Building Code
  • Experience producing permit and construction drawing packages
  • Familiarity with municipal permitting processes and landlord approvals
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and SketchUp
  • Strong computer skills with experience using Word, Excel, Outlook, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and MS Project
  • A valid BC Driver's License and access to reliable transportation
WHO YOU ARE
  • Confident presenting ideas and building relationships with clients
  • Comfortable working independently while collaborating with a close-knit team
  • Highly organized and capable of managing several projects simultaneously
  • Entrepreneurial in your approach and motivated by accountability
  • Creative, practical, and solutions-focused
  • Calm under pressure and adaptable
  • Excellent with people; have great interpersonal skills
  • Someone who thrives when trusted with responsibility rather than micromanaged
WHAT IS IN IT FOR YOU
This is more than another Interior Designer role. Here, you'll enjoy:
  • Significant autonomy to lead your own projects from start to finish
  • A collaborative design-build environment where decisions move efficiently
  • Direct access to experienced leadership and project management support
  • A modern Vancouver office in a premium workspace
  • A small, supportive team where every person has a meaningful impact
  • A strong pipeline of commercial projects with continued company growth
  • Commission eligibility after one year of employment that rewards your contributions as you grow with the business
  • Ability to shape your career and directly impact business success
This is an excellent opportunity for a mid-level Interior Designer, who is ready to step into an impactful role without waiting years for advancement at a larger firm. If you're looking for greater ownership, meaningful client interaction, and the chance to help shape exciting commercial environments throughout the Lower Mainland, we'd love to hear from you.
