About Pratt Miller, an Oshkosh company

Pratt Miller is a product development company in motorsports, defense, and mobility industries providing clients with product engineering and low-volume production solutions. Our range of research & development, engineering, prototype manufacturing, test & validation, and low-rate production capability help our customers bring their high-quality products to market faster.

The Quality Engineer - Mid Level will support programs across the product development lifecycle-from prototype through low-volume production-within an ISO 9001 certified engineering and manufacturing environment. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure customer quality requirements are understood, implemented, and verified through effective quality planning, process development, and problem-solving.

The Quality Engineer will work closely with internal engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams, as well as customer and supplier partners, to support quality planning, documentation deliverables, and continuous improvement initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & SKILLS:

Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Collaborate with product development teams to interpret customer quality requirements and ensure they are incorporated into program execution.

  • Partner with the quality laboratory team to implement processes that ensure customer and program requirements are met.

  • Inspect incoming parts and documentation to confirm specifications and established quality standards are satisfied.

  • Apply structured problem-solving techniques (such as 8D) to identify root causes and lead cross-functional teams in developing corrective actions.

  • Participate in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) reviews with engineering and manufacturing teams.

  • Support Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) development with manufacturing engineering.

  • Develop and maintain robust control plans to ensure consistent product quality.

  • Apply knowledge of measurement and verification methods to validate product and process requirements.

  • Support the design and implementation of in-process and end-of-line inspection or test methods.

  • Assist manufacturing teams in the development and implementation of new processes from a quality perspective.

  • Create, review, and approve internal and supplier FAIR (First Article Inspection Reports) and/or PPAP documentation.

  • Maintain quality records, documentation, and program data.

  • Conduct audits of production processes both internally and at supplier locations.

  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams in both written and verbal formats.

  • Utilize Windows-based systems and Microsoft Office tools including Teams, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and review CAD models when required.

  • Perform effectively in a fast-paced product development environment

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: In addition to the responsibilities mentioned above, tasks relating to the following area will be assigned as required.

  • Demonstrate strong teamwork and collaboration.

  • Maintain a high level of self-motivation with the ability to manage workload and meet project deadlines.

  • Exhibit strong attention to detail.

  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic and pride in work product.

  • This position requires lawful access to ITAR/EAR-controlled information. Candidates must meet eligibility requirements, including U.S. Citizenship.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  • BS Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering field required.

  • 3-5 years of experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment, preferably supporting defense or advanced technology programs.

  • Working knowledge of mechanical systems and manufacturing processes.

  • Ability to read engineering drawings and interpret Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

DESIRED SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Experience applying quality tools such as PFMEA, control plans, and structured problem-solving methodologies.

  • Knowledge of inspection techniques, metrology equipment, and measurement systems.

  • Familiarity with quality documentation standards such as PPAP and FAIR.

  • Experience working within ISO 9001 or similar quality management systems.

  • Working knowledge of CAD software for design review.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Position requires occasional light to moderate physical activity, including time spent in manufacturing and inspection environments.

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

  • Standard working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

  • Typical work week averages approximately 45 hours.

  • Additional hours or occasional weekend work may be required to support program deadlines.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This position is primarily performed on-site and includes a combination of office and manufacturing environments.

  • Periodic travel may be required to support supplier or customer activities.

  • Team members work on collaborative, technically challenging programs that support advanced mobility, motorsports, and defense applications.
