Job description

Dewberry is seeking a responsible, highly motivated, and detail oriented individual to join our structures department in either our Fresno or Rancho Cordova, CA offices as a Senior Structures/Project Engineer (Bridge). The successful candidate will be part of a team designing simple and complex bridges (primarily of concrete and steel construction) and a variety of transportation related structures (retaining walls, culverts, sign structures, and other miscellaneous structures). The candidate will also be involved in leading and developing Plans, Specifications, and Estimate (PS&E) packages, field inspections, and performing construction design support services.  Project Engineering responsibilities include being the technical lead on multidisciplinary teams, utility coordination, right-of-way needs assessments, funding justifications, and other items needed for project development.   • Independently prepares project plan and estimate (P&E) packages including quantities, calculations, reports, and exhibits on small to mid level projects
  • Works as part of a team preparing project plan and estimate (P&E) packages including quantities, calculations, reports, and exhibits on large level projects
  • Leads project teams and coordinates between disciplines to oversee project delivery
  • Prepares notes for specification writers and standard Caltrans style structures specifications
  • Works closely and coordinates with other disciplines including CAD drafters
  • Participates and leads utility, permitting, and subconsultant coordination on projects
  • Performs QA/QC on projects per internal standards
  • Prepares QA/QC checklist packages per internal standards
  • Mentors and supervises younger staff
  • Leads and assists in preparing proposal write-ups and exhibits
  • Leads and assists in preparing scopes, fees, and proposal packages
  • Participates and leads efforts in internal technical trainings
  • Prepares RE Pending Files and is involved with bidding and construction support services
  • Attends periodic site visits, structures observations, and other field meetings
  • Monitors and manages scopes and budgets during project production efforts

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited 4-year engineering college
  • Master’s degree is preferred
  • California Professional Engineer (PE) License is preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in bridge and retaining wall projects
  • Experience designing transportation related structures projects to Caltrans and local agency standards
  • Familiarity with AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications with Caltrans Amendments
  • Preference for knowledge of CTBridge, CSiBridge, VBent, CTAbut, LPile, and/or similar analysis programs
  • Proficiency using CADD (AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred)
  • Strong leadership skills and desire to deliver the highest quality projects to our clients
  • Proficient in MS Office (WORD and EXCEL)
