Job Description
The Senior Java Developer - Vice President is a senior, hands-on development role within Prime Services Technology, responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining complex data pipelines and applications. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of multiple areas within Prime Services Technology and how they interact to achieve the objectives of the function.
Prime Services Technology provides business solutions to Prime Brokerage, Equity Finance, Delta One, Futures Execution and Clearing, and OTC Clearing businesses. The Senior Java Developer will be a hands-on technologist who will work on different data pipelines and collaborate closely with Prime Business Analysts, Quantitative Analysts, Traders to understand requirements. The role involves developing new data pipelines with a strong focus on Java and Python, and enhancing existing applications. While the role provides exposure to Big Data technologies, deep prior experience is not a prerequisite and can be developed on the job.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in software development with a strong background in building and managing enterprise data pipelines, combined with comprehensive business knowledge of financial data. This role requires applying an in-depth understanding of the business impact of technical contributions, with strong commercial awareness being a necessity. Excellent communication skills are required to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions and to drive communication between business leaders and technology teams to ensure solutions are in line with the firm's strategic direction.
Responsibilities:
  • Design, build, and maintain robust, scalable data pipelines and APIs to support analytics, quants, and product development teams.
  • Drive the design, simplification, and modernization efforts for individual system components, contributing to overall architectural improvements.
  • Lead application systems analysis and programming activities, establishing and implementing new or revised systems.
  • Take ownership of technical frameworks and platforms, ensuring that common solutions and strategic architecture are consistently implemented across the organization.
  • Ensure application design adheres to the overall architecture blueprint and develop standards for coding, testing, debugging, and implementation.
  • Leverage expertise in Java-based frameworks, including Spring Boot, to develop robust solutions.
  • Perform comprehensive data analysis to identify and address data discrepancies or gaps within production datasets.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in deploying applications across both Virtual Machine (VM) and containerized environments.
  • Actively contribute to daily scrum discussions, ensuring a clear understanding of assigned tasks and stories, and committing to their timely delivery.
  • Serve as a technical advisor and coach to mid-level developers and analysts, providing guidance and allocating work as necessary.
  • Partner with multiple management teams and stakeholders to ensure the appropriate integration of functions and define system enhancements for new products and process improvements.

Recommended Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 8+ years' hands-on software development experience with at least 6+ years in backend development.
  • Must have strong, hands-on experience with Java (17+ preferred) and the Spring ecosystem, including Spring Boot, Spring MVC, and Hibernate.
  • Must have strong, hands-on experience with Python for data processing and application development.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, building, and working on data pipelines is required.
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) principles, data structures, and software design patterns.
  • Proficiency with both relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Oracle) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Dynamo DB).
  • Demonstrated experience designing and building RESTful APIs and microservices.
  • Experience with message brokers like Apache Kafka for building asynchronous, event-driven systems.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Expert experience in Linux environments.
  • Strong understanding of software development best practices, including automated testing, security, and performance tuning.
  • Demonstrated leadership, project management, and mentoring skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to adjust priorities as circumstances dictate.
  • Prior work experience in Capital Markets trade processing is a significant plus.

Nice to Have:
  • Hands-on experience with Big Data technologies (e.g., PySpark, Hive, HDFS, Impala, Presto/Trino) is a plus and can be learned on the job.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP) is desired.
